I'm in no way suggesting I think he should win this year. But he's deserving of a nomination.
As opposed to the 26 minutes a night he currently is playing? Check his ATOI. I think it's just under 26 right now, but I've seen it as high as 28. Also, he's had games where he's played over 30 minutes.

And that Corsi quotient thing doesn't quite capture what's actually going on. It's too simplistic. Paul MacLean doesn't like to use EK on the penalty kill. This isn't because of any deficiency, it's because they want him on the ice for as much even strength and power play time as possible. Otherwise, the kid would be playing 35 minutes a game.

Yeah he plays 30 some nights, almost always in 65 minute games.

30 minutes a night is much different than 26. It means 27-33 minutes every game. By the time he's 25 he might be up there around 27.

Last 12 games he has had 8 multipoint games, 17 points and has been a +15.

Give him his money.

I expected him to slow down, and he only heated up. Kid's unreal.

At the start of the year I thought we could get him for 3 mill. A quarter of the way I thought it would tak 4 mil. Now I think it's going to take 5 or more million...

LOL.

I was thinking Doughty money before the season started.

His agent is going to have a field day.

While you were trying to tell me he wasn't the most skilled Dman in the game.

True, I did say that.

And he probably is.

I'll take 50% right.

I was just building myself up for disappointment

It's been pretty evident since he was a rookie, no one acknowledges it until they see results though. Raw skill has nothing to do with numbers.

It's been pretty amazing how he's gone from showing flashes of brilliance to being amazing for most of every game he plays in.

I think what's most important now is that his gaffes aren't of the defensive variety anymore.

They are related to his offense, in that he'll try a Spezza-type pass in his own zone that gets picked off.

But in terms of his positioning and his play along the boards, he's actually been solid, and his speed on the backcheck is impressive. His one on one play against very big and skilled forwards has been pretty consistent too. Looks like the gymnatics is paying off.

I was waiting to see if it was going to be a Housley type development or not. A specific set of skills, not necessarily all-rounded.

The only part of his defense that bugs me is when we turn the puck over in the neutral zone, and the opposition counters quickly...he struggles to keep up with the rush as he pivots into backward and it seems he just lets people blow by him. He can have a solid game defensively...but he may let that happen once in a game. For the most part, it hasn't burned us at all because Andy's made stops.

I hate to keep harping on it...but if he finished the season with 70 points, he'll be right in line with Coffey, Orr, Leetch at 21 (relative to league scoring, of course). And no, EK won't lead the league in scoring last year like Orr did. The game is too structured to allow for it anymore.

I just think if you can teach Toby Enstrom to play a level of defense over time that could be considered for a Norris...you could teach a 70+ Dman like Karlsson the same thing, or even more as his ability is a level higher.

He should be striving for greatness and it seems like that's what he's going after. He could have finished with 0 points in this one and I would have been so pumped....a game against a top team where Karlsson is invisible is one of the most encouraging things we could see from him. He can't dominate offensively every night, and when he's quiet....he needs to be reliable in those 25 minutes.

He's the ultimate trap-cracker.

It's fun watching teams try to trap when he's on the ice.

Either he'll pass it through, lob the puck over, or simply rush up the middle between the bluelines.

Our team actually does very well against passive defences.

It's the heavy forecheck that still gives us problems.

As good as Gonchar is, he and Lee are still vulnerable to it, and Phillips, Kuba and Cowen can be forced into making mistakes. Even Karlsson can get caught chasing.

Yeah and NYR is a heavy forecheck and I wouldn't be surprised if they told him to take it easy. Pick spots very carefully but concentrate on defense first tonight...it really seemed like it.

We have a player that can almost single handedly allow us to play in the oppositions end, more than ours, for 25-30 minutes a night....who is 21.

I'm just pumped were the ones that get to watch him nightly. Few players I'd prefer to see.

The entertainment value with Karlsson compared with a Clouston/Hartsburg team is quite shocking.

No wonder SBP is selling out.

Kouleas and Button just ******** the crap out of Karlsson pretty well saying he's been the best defensemen in the game this year. They did so while showing a whole bunch of solid defensive plays he made tonight.

I saw that too...sometimes I wonder whether they do that stuff on purpose. In a 3-0 win where he was stellar all night and put up two points, it was very odd they showed that.

The Sens would have to overtake Boston for anyone on Ottawa to get consideration.

Starting at 1:20.

Matter of time before primetime TSN takes notice of Karlsson "all over the ice"?
