Damn. Lots of time to talk about this one.

2-0 Canucks. Luongo with both the goals and 98 save shutout.

I know. On the one hand, I'm annoyed that we have a long wait after such a big game. But on the other hand, it should give Burrows and Salo some time to recover and hopefully rejoin the lineup.

The high of the Chicago game will ultimately be meaningless if the Canucks can't follow it up with consistent effort. Wonder if the Canuck faithful will be loud and proud in LA and Anaheim again?

They should be up for playing LA, so I expect a blowout.

Is it wrong to leave a dinner early to watch a regular season Canucks game? I hope not.

It would be really nice to see them string a few good games in a row together. Or at least 3.

LA doesn't score a lot (27th offence), but is also pretty good defensively (3rd overall in GAA).

Kopitar has been the most consistent King so far with 16 points in 13 games.

Not surprising. He is easily a top 15 center in the league. It still makes me sad Vancouver did not draft him.

Which surprises me. If anything I thought those numbers should be flipped.

Doesn't really surprise me, LA is still lacking impact wingers; they picked up Richards, but he's a guy who hit career highs on an absolutely stacked Philadelphia team as their impromptu #1 centre...consistently been more of a 60 point player since then, and I didn't expect a shift to a more defensively oriented and less offensively deep Kings team helping his numbers. Once again LA only has one player on pace for PPG+ production, and it's Kopitar. The defense from the back end has really dried up as well; Hamhuis currently has the same amount of points as Doughty and Johnson combined. Penner is looking like absolute garbage, and they are getting like zero production out of their bottom six.

Btw, if we can somehow turn Hammer into a 40 pt defenseman I will lose my ****.

It's actually my bad. The Chicago PGT thread was labelled as game #14 and made me all confused.

New title given the amount of time between games?

Exactly what I thought when I first read that. Maybe they're modelling their style of play after Budreau's.

They've had an OK start to the year, though. Jonathan Quick's numbers are kind of eye-popping--1.68 GAA, .941 SVP and 3 shutouts. Lofty numbers for a guy I consider one of the poorer starting goaltenders amongst the contending Western Conference teams.

Why is that, just out of curiosity? In my opinion he's actually one of the more unheralded goalies in the league. He's been pretty consistent the last few seasons in racking up the wins and putting up good numbers. His only problem seems to be that he falters near the end of the season. I know Coach Terry Murray likes to play Quick a lot so perhaps that's just a matter of fatigue. Either way, he's been one of the better goalies in the West the past couple seasons, Rinne and Luongo really being the only ones that have been consistently better than him.

Over time Quick's numbers will average out as will happen with Khabibulin.

We have seen goalies go on hot streaks.

I'm not surprised that Quick is killing it. The Kings are still a defense first team. Players like Willie Mitchell, Rob Scuderi and Matt Greene do a great job of keeping the back end steady and clear the rebounds. Doughty and JMFJ have their defensive lapses but they aren't slouches either. They are also strong down the middle with Kopitar and Richards. I think they are finally ready to advance deep into the playoffs.

Vancouver never does well after a LA layover, except last season.

LA plays tonight and tomorrow. They've lost their last four gamees.

It must be hard to ride the momentum after four days off. The Canucks need every point, this season. Vignault has a lot of time to address the team's issues, whatever they are (injuries?). At least they have a little toehold to build from.

You pretty much answered the question. Quick seems to have hot starts in most years, and granted he's not a bad goaltender, but he's still one of the poorer starters amongst the contenders. In both of his previous playoff series' against Vancouver and San Jose, he ended up being lit up like a Christmas tree. And, as you said, he always seems to stumble a bit as the season drags on. I don't know whether that's due to stamina or what, but it would be a conern of mine as a fan of that team.

I think LA has built one of the better teams in the conference, but to me, their weak link is goaltending.

It's not the worst of the bunch, though--San Jose with Antti Niemi between the pipes will get exactly nowhere.

LA doesn't have enough push on offense to make it anywhere in the playoffs, in my opinion.

Exactly. People need to remember we're 10-15 freaking games in still, the season has hardly started. There was some weird **** going on in the league early last year but the cream rose in the end eventually.

Thats why I expect Dallas and Edmonton to fall back to earth a little, and soon.

Really? Kopitar/Richards/Brown/Penner/Gagne/Williams/Doughty/Johnson. The talent is there in oozes.
