An interesting look at the possibly rentals out there to fill holes in the B's lineup.

Hate to lose McQuaid

Throw in UFA Boychuck (much like they did with Stuart)

I say we have a good core in place and a player in Seguin to build around. If Chiarelli can get some role players to fill around and have them pan out we will be great...I dont think they need anyone earth moving.

Blah. Crappy year to have all this extra cap space if you ask me.

rentals they have Spooner, Sauve, Hamill, Arniel and Knight on the way and some will be ready. I hope we don's sign any swill and give these guys a chance.

Gawd I hate recycled bleep

btw- very impressed with former 2nd rounder (two picks ahead of Bergeron) Josh Hennessey. He has an NHL type game.

I like it, but would be okay with removing McQuaid & Gleason and just bringing in Ruutu.

Good players, but wow that seems like a ton to give up for 2 good rentals. A recent first rounder, a very solid bottom pairing defenseman who is locked up long term at an affordable rate, and another first round pick in what is expected to be an all time great draft

I dont know if we are on the same page.

These would be UFA's the Bruins can target to fill their 3rd line wing spot for this season. I dont think any of the ones mentioned above are making an impact this year.

I agree though, I would be weary of picking up players with time left on their deal due to the pipe line. But for this season? They need some help

I liked Gleason until he acted like a girl scout in the Carolina game this year. I would not give up McQuaid for him in that deal.

Ruutu would be a very good rental and would part with Caron in a second, would offer prospects before a pick this year. Spooner in place of a first rounder works for me.

I put that game on the coach over Gleason. Maurice has always loved soft hockey.

Seems like a huge overpayment. Neither of those players impress me at all. I personally like McQuaid alot and also wouldn't waste a 1st rd pick on either of them. Caron I'm indifferent about.

Not a lot of good players, sucks too since we will have a bunch of cap room.

The one player that I would really want is Suter, don't know if the Preds would let him go though.

Certainly not for a rental. D-day is coming after next season with so many of our players due up for contracts so I want to keep as many of our young cheap players who are under our control as possible. McQuaid is very valuable at 1.5 going into the future and a young experienced cheap 3rd line 2-way winger is going to be great to have a year and a half from now when we are trying to figure out if we can afford to keep all of our top players.

Doubt he would leave Phoenix for a few months, even for a opportunity at a Cup with the defending Champs, but give me Shane Doan every day of the week and twice on Sundays.

I also like Doan alot. He's a scorer with plenty of physicality that would fit perfectly into our team MO. The question is whether or not he wants to leave PHX.

I think they should go the RFA route and go after T.J. Oshie.

He is a fast, skilled player and would be great insurance, if God forbid, Bergon or Krejci get injured.

I think he would be great with Peverley, similar style, Oshie a little more skilled IMO and bigger upside.

The problem, St Louis wouldn't be willing to just give him away.

They could create the 3rd line of 3 centers.

Oh not me. I don't like the idea of handing players jobs. The last four impactful rookies we had, had to steal their jobs from proven NHL players. Wheeler made Schaefer expendable. Marchand put Paille in the press box. Boychuk made Hunwick expendable. McQuaid made Stuart expendable...

All these guys started out the season on the outside looking in, and had to outplay a vet to win a regular spot in the lineup. Contrast that to Caron who really hasn't had to compete with anyone and how poorly he started the season. It wasn't until he was sent down and the B's signed a vet that he started to pick things up.

Competition is key, IMO.

Agreed.

I am a big fan of Caron's game but giving him a top 9 position was a mistake. I was hoping he would start out like Marchand did, if he became a success his production and good play would be an added bonus, if Caron played poorly the role of 12/13th forward isn’t important and we could play though his growing pains.

Prospects aren’t important, I care about this team winning. I remember when this board was crazy for Karsums, Kalus and Krejci and only one player is an NHL player today. Team’s are lucky if 20-30% of their prospects turn into real NHL players, you have to hope management does a good job identifying which young talent to trade to improve the team now and who to keep to improve the team in the future.

^ I agree. While it's worthwhile to give a promising prospect a try once in a while, you can't have a team that's half rookies, that wouldn't work out too well...

I'd love to see Doan on this team, we could make another huge run with his leadership. He probably won't leave Phoenix, but I think he'd look good in Black and Gold.
