Question.

It's essentially impossible to get exceptional player status in the QMJHL. So let's say MacKinnon was a good ol' Ontario boy. Do you think he would have been granted exceptional player status?

He's not supposed to be as good as Malkin. Funny a year before his draft he's labelled a bust

Do you think he'll be a 2 PPG player next year?

What are you basing this on? Please don't say it's because Crosby didn't get exceptional status, since it's been pointed out so many times that he played before the Tavares rule. If Crosby's parents had threatened to take him to another league, Hockey Canada probably would've changed the rule for him.
Hockey Canada, not the QMJHL decides who gets exceptional status, so it makes no real difference which CHL league someone plays in.

Saw that same poster's comments in a couple other threads today, he's an obvious troll, and not a particularly creative one either.

well explain what screams but with this guy...if your going to throw a comment out there at least back it up with some knowledge because if not your just a person who throws something out there just to be different to get repsonses on the board because you have nothing knowledgable to say...so i want to see your reason for this...

i could throw a quote out there saying Sam Reinhart is no good (lol), but with out me saying why just makes me look stupied...by the way Reinhart is amazing lol.

Good possibility. In the playoffs he had 28 points in 17 games and he really got better as the season went on. If he isn't, he should be very close

I can see he and Drouin scoring in the 110+ range next year.

The bolded couldn't be farther from the truth. The below post I quoted is correct.

As for your question, no, I don't think he would have gotten exceptional status. He's a great talent, but not on the level of the other three that have gotten ES, IMO (in regards to being a junior player).

Pretty well on point, and can't be said enough because so few know the rule. The OHL, QMJHL, and WHL have no real say in if a player gets exceptional status, players apply to Hockey Canada.

Just curious, who were the best player at MacKinnons age out of MacKinnon himself, Yakupov, RNH and Hall?

At 16? Hall for sure if not counting Mackinnon (Which is what I thought you were saying).

Probably MacKinnon, Hall, Yakupov, RNH.

Kinda ironic that your username is a player that looks every day more likely to be one of the biggest busts in recent years.

Hall and MacKinnon had similar production and finished top 20 in their respective leagues for points. Hall also led the OHL in +/- which I don't any other 16 year old in the CHL has ever done. But MacKinnon had less help in Halifax. They were both probably clear of Hopkins at that age. Yakupov played in Russia as a 16 year old, so he'd be hard to compare.

The team who finishes last will def have a long hard look, he will go 1 or 2 barring injury or stalled development

Whoever fails for him the hardest. So probably CBJ, unless they lose another lottery.

Based on what I seen I would take Smith over MacKinnon.

Found this pretty interesting, short article about MacKinnon and Jones:

Quote:
The two top prospects have spent the past few weeks rooming together, training in Los Angeles, attending the Stanley Cup Final and checking out the draft festivities.
I imagine we'll see them go head to head at the WJCs. Could become a really nice rivalry by this time next year.

Unless Tavares gets injured and age catches up with Nabakov, I just don't see it barring a lottery win.

Not sure if the Isles will be good enough to compete next year, but I don't think they will be bad enough to end up with the 1st/2nd overall.

If Edmonton gets the 1st overall pick again next year then they deserve to be relegated to the AHL
