EDMONTON OILERS (8-3-2)____________MONTREAL CANADIENS (5-6-2)

Game Day Information

BELL CENTRE

GAME DAY: Tuesday, November 8th
PUCK DROP: 5:40 PM MST
TV: Sportsnet West
STREAMS: Oilers vs Habs
RADIO: 630 CHED

Headlines

WEST MEETS EAST AS THE EDMONTON OILERS TAKE THEIR RODEO ROAD TRIP TO MONTREAL TO FACE LES HABITANTS:

Last Season's Series:
Game 1: Oilers 4(OT) - Canadiens 3

Game 2: Canadiens 1 - Oilers 4

The Oilers look to pick themselves up after they were defeated by the Phoenix Coyotes by a score of 4-2. Edmonton won both games against the Canadiens last season.

Oilers forward, Ales Hemsky, who has been limited to four periods of hockey this season because of a shoulder injury, said Monday afternoon, "I think I'm ready, but it's not in my hands." on the possibility of returning to the line up tonight. Tom Renney says he's "thinking about it". But with Hemsky not practicing on the PP, that could be an indicator he sits out at least one more game.

Off-season acquisition, Cam Barker, is expected to make his return to the blue line after missing three games with an "upper-body injury"

The Montreal Canadiens will also look to rebound after a 5-3 loss to the New York Rangers on Saturday; they had won four in a row prior to that.

Game Day Quotes

We’ve talked to him about asserting himself. He’s big, he’s strong, he can skate, he can shoot the puck well. He has to play to his strengths - Coach Renney's thoughts on Paajarvi's slow start to the season.

I can’t really think too much about it. I have to play on instinct, that’s how I got here. I play my best hockey when I don’t think. - Magnus Paajarvi

I have my legs under me. It’s not something I lost. It’s just a matter of feeling comfortable with my shoulder. I feel great. It’s just something that needed time. - Ales Hemsky

I think we’ve all kind of heard the talk that we’re bound to fall again, that we’re bound to get kicked back to the curb. We don’t want that to happen. - Taylor Hall

I feel healthy being around these guys. Their energy rubs off. Hopefully my experience can rub off on them. Let’s just make it a two-way street. I’m enjoying myself, trying to win hockey games. - Ryan Smyth

Just stepping out there is pretty cool. It’s going to be a lot of fun. I’ve watched games here and the atmosphere is crazy. You can tell just by watching. - Ryan Nugent Hopkins

A lot of guys are going to experience it for the first time. Hopefully they’ll enjoy it. There is nothing that compares to playing here. - Eric Belanger

THE OTHER SIDE:

They have a great young team. The biggest thing they have going for them is speed. Against a team like that, you have to be on your toes. - Habs captain, Brian Gionta

We've got to focus on doing our jobs and staying out of the box and get that rhythm going. I think we have a good team when we roll some lines and get guys involved.
- Hal Gill

My friends and I are going to catch the game at Le Skratch, a bar in Laval. Can't wait to rub it in their faces. If Oilers win that is.

3-2 Montreal

Teams who win 6-7 games and then lose usually lose another game after that.

Good thing Sutton's suspension isn't over yet. All their forwards heads are elbow level by default.

Sad because it's probably true. For both him and Hall.

You've never heard of over thinking? This hurts lots of players and it usually comes when a player is slumping, they second guess themselves and ultimately it keeps them slumping.

He needs to be able to trust his instincts I think is more what he is saying. I think sometimes with the way coaches emphasize system play and try to get offensive talented players to think system first it can really make them second guess everything they do. In a game as fast as the NHL if you second guess anything you are always going to be a split second late for the easy tap in goal or the perfect pass.

Paajarvi will get it, hes already so good defensively. What more could you ask for from a developing player? He does not have the skill set of a Hall or RNH. But he is going to be a consistent second line player or possibly a decent penalty killer and Selke type player. Nothing wrong with either option.

Maybe i am being too optimistic, but the kid is good, despite his slump you don't really notice many glaring errors or dumb play.

These next 3-4 games are pretty important games in my opinion. If we come out of this road trip with a winning record, that will only help the team. I want these guys to think they're a top team and then do everything they can to get 2 points. Taylor Hall definitely gets it and has the right attitude.

It would be a great experience for Nuge to win one in Montreal, tonight is going to be crazy for him.

This is a game they should be able to legitimately win and get back on track with. At least that's what I'm lead to believe given what I've seen from them so far this season. Anyways I'm excited for tonight. Always love going to MTL.

My initial take on this was that the "thinking part" was in reference to his play-to-date, i.e. basically no production. He is refering to "I can't really think too much about it".

But maybe I'm lost in translation.

What's so sad about it? Most good players play on instinct and try not to over-think too much. His comment is perfectly valid although i can understand why it might get lost in translation.

Anyway, is there any word on Hemsky? I'm guessing it'll be a gametime decision with him? I'm curious to see where Renney places him in the lineup whether it be on the vet line or the Gagner-Paajavi line.
