Exactly! Isn't it bad enough that I stepped in it with Mogilny?
I am not trying to be mean, please, I know over the computer sometimes folks can come across as condescending and what have you.
I will be the first to tell you I am not very high on Russian native prospects. However, since having two in our pipeline I have really started to lean the other way.

I didn't take it as mean at all. This is all in good fun. Chances are that none of us on this board know enough about any of the prospects to actually get into a heated argument.
With the isles defense losing 4 vets and the trade market for d-men being weak, does this push Murray to the top of the isles wishlist? He is considered to be the most nhl ready of the blueline prospects.

Although a GM should be taking all aspects into consideration, I got that feeling that Snow and co. are going 'forward' again unless Murray hits Doughty/Pietrangelo/Larsson type status heading into the draft - which is thoroughly possible. It's the documented trend that teams are going with forwards in the top 10, with the exception of the top Dman or two. The Isles have followed that trend despite no less than Schenn and Fowler being available when it's been their turn to pick.
Then again, it may all depend on where the Isles finish.
I wouldn't be surprised if we're picking 10th or so. The way JT and Moulson are going, and in general the way in which the team is presenting itself in these dog days of winter, I wouldn't be surprised if the club goes .500 or so in the nu NHL over the second half of the season. That'd keep us at the top of the leagues worst third of teams, but promising if it continues to be the kids who right the ship.
My God! That is the longest, most detailed scouting report of one player I have ever read.. but it is based on ONE game.... how fair is it to give such a detailed scouting report based on one game... and 9 minutes of ice time nonetheless.

I know, ehh. That was JUST one game!
Then again, if you concentrate on a guy that much, you're not seeing much else.
As much as I like Ryan Murray I just do not see the Islanders picking in the top three this season. I have said in the past if folks are that high on the Islanders taking a defender you are going to need to sort through names like
-Trouba (my fav spec next to Forsberg)
-Rielly
-Ceci
-Koekkoek (a kid I could very easily see make his way into the top ten come draft day)

Yep, got to see each of Rielly, Ceci and Koekkoek at the U-18 last spring and each has promise. Ceci looked the most hefty of the group, but it was Koekkoek who seemed to get an extraordinary amount of trust from the coaching staff.
Also, one of my personal faves from that tournament was Maatta. He had a bit of Niinimaa and Pitkanen, but was incredibly responsible in all three zones. Honest player who hustles a bunch.
Got knocked out pretty hard in the recent WJC though. I'd have noooooo problems with us slipping into the playoffs and taking this kid around 16th!:-)
Suggestion: Can the OP and thread title be updated to identify NYI 2012 pick selection?
Seems like NYI have all their own except their 4th rounder goes to VAN, however Isles get BUF's 4th rounder (Ehrhoff swaps). Plus have MTL's 5th (Wiz).

This is a general draft thread. Since it is on the Isles board, you can assume a lot of the discussion is about what the Isles are going to do.
A dream for me would be landing Dumba at #4 or #5, then trading up to get another 1st and take someone like Koekkoek or Rielly, assuming they will fall to say the mid-1st due to injuries. If you add Dumba and Koekkoek or Rielly... you're defense for the future could very well be set.. Also including de Haan, Donovan, Mayfield, Pedan and Russo.
You always want to take the BPA, and I hope it's a D that's the BPA when we pick.
It's appearing less and less likely to be Forsberg/Murray/Dumba, as the Islanders climb the standings and Dumba climbs the draft rankings, Forsberg/Murray remain where they are as top 5 picks.
It could very well end up being Jacob Trouba, who I know a few here have started to become fond of. He had a few big games in the USHL piling up points and is up to 10 points in 13 games, so his offensive game is starting to come around. That would certainly be a great pick in the 7-9 range where he's slotted to go.
I like Galchenyuk a lot, and wouldn't be opposed to taking Sebastian Collberg if we end up picking in the 10+ range. He reminds me a little bit of Zetterberg.

I think that Galchenyuk would be a great pick for the Isles if he is available around the 7th pick and Yakov, Grigorenko, Forsberg, Murray, Dumba and Trouba are the first 6 picks in this years draft, which might happen. I still think that Galchenyuk will be drafted around 5th overall if he tests well at the combine and the Isles will be left with a top defenseman to draft.
How do you feel about the fact that Alex Galchenyuk will have missed most if not all of the 2011-12 season due to knee surgery?
It's a little worrisome, but I would still make the pick. Obviously that is a serious injury and you never know if it could become something chronic, however it also means his stock will most likely drop. We have enough talent in the system to let us make a pick like this.
I just love his skill set. I think he has all the tools to be a dominating center, and worthy of being talked about in the same class of Yakupov and Grigorenko. If we were to draft Galchenyuk and he ended up developing well, it would give us a lot of options going forward.
I know a lot of people are really into the thought of taking a defenseman, and if defense is BPA I am all for it, I just think we need to bring in a veteran to solve our current defensive woes. A guy we draft this year, regardless of who, isn't going to help us next year.
This draft has been heralded for several years now as very deep for defensemen... Now that we are getting closer to midseason, there look to be 3 or 4 forward prospects at the very top (Yakupov, Grigorenko, Forsberg and Galychuk (sp?), along with one or two D men (R. Murray, Dumba) that give them a run for top 5 overall picks..... since the Isles seem to be improving, I started again looking at those defensive prospects in the 7-10 range......... here's a guy nobody is talking about... Cody Ceci.
Cody Ceci is 6'3 206 and is going at a point a game clip for the Ottawa 67's.. 44 games, 10 goals, 34 assists.
Size and scoring from a blueliner is something this team lacks in defensive prospects.. all our best puck moving D prospects are slightly built...

I think we are going to end up in that 7-10 range, I'm hoping Trouba or Dumba fall but if not I like the size and points that Ceci has. With Tavares, Moulson, Okposo, Grabner, Nino and Strome I think that we need to look at defense. I wouldn't mind going with a dman with the first and second round picks too.

I would do backflips if we draft Dumba or Trouba.
Cody Ceci has really shot up the rankings this year. He's got good size and offensive ability. I've read that he lacks physicality and lacks the initial skating burst of some of the other premium defense prospects this year. I saw a couple of comparisons to Drew Doughty-lite.
We really need to draft a defenseman this year, preferably a RH one. We'll have to see. Dumba, Trouba, Ceci - I'll take any of one them.
