If he winds up being the pick, I would be pretty happy about it. This kid is pretty legit and overlooked because he doesn't get a lot of coverage.
Well if he's our guy, he better have 2 yrs in the SEL than another in the AHL. Actually wouldn't he be eligible to join Bridgeport right away following the draft? I don't think he was selected by anyone yet in the CHL import draft. I think as long as a player is drafted by the CHL after they've been selected in the NHL draft they can play in the AHL. Correct me if I'm wrong? Niklas Bergfors went straight to the AHL following the NHL draft, so did Nikita Filatov and Tomas Tatar to name a few.

Forsberg is a baby, an August '94 b-day which makes him the youngest of the elite prospects. He wouldn't be eligible until 2 years after the Draft to play in the AHL. He would be best served to stay in the SEL and develop there for 2 years before he comes over the pond. By then, he may or may not need some time in the AHL. I suspect that even if the Isles wanted him to come over sooner, he'll probably stay there until he is good and ready - little chance for the Isles to 'rush' him.

?

That's not true at all. As long as he is 18 and isn't drafted out of the CHL he can play in the AHL.

So if Petrov did not have a KHL Contract at the time he was drafted, he could have played in the AHL?.....

Back to my favorite defense prospect in this year's draft... Mathew Dumba.

Nice scouting report on him from THW.

Oliver Ekmann-Larsson made the transfer from Allsvenskan to the NHL with success at a young age. Ekmann-Larsson also played for Leksand in Allsvenskan before joining Phoenix. Patrik Berglund had 47 points in 08/09 after joining St. Louis straight from Västerås in Allsvenskan. Although he is yet to establish himself as a profile in the NHL, Mikael Backlund also made the jump from Allvenskan to NA hockey.

Although I still prefer Murray, Dumba and Trouba over Forsberg, I won't shake my head if Snow decides to go for Forsberg.

It might also be worth spending some late round picks on some other Allvenskan players who are yet to be drafted:

- 92-born Adam Pettersson (Sundsvall) - 10G, 19A, 29P in 52G
- 93-born Emil Lundberg* (Södertälje) - 6G, 12A, 18P in 51G
- 91-born Victor Bäckman (Borås) - 10G, 16A, 26P in 44G:

*First year draft eligible. Listed as no. 52 on CSS midterm ranking

Why all the hype and praise for Forsberg?
We should know more after the U18.

He and Collberg will probably be on a line together. Sweden is a medal favorite for sure.

The very young Burakowsky will also be there. He's one to keep a real eye on in the future.

Seems like a Garth Snow type of guy.....

But so does Forsberg......

I really hope we come away with either Dumba or Murray

And I Hope we trade down with the pick, Pick up a defenceman that can help us now and still come back enough to pick up Griffin Reinhart.

Looking at our centers, we're small up the middle and you need big, goal scoring forwards to complement them. Forsberg projects to be a game breaker.
Help is on the way, in the form of C Brock Nelson (6'4), plus winger Anders Lee (6'2 220), and perhaps even Petrov (6'3)...

I really feel Nelson is gonna be special.. throw in Strome and we are more than set up front (especially if Bailey and Okposo continue this leap forward next year)..

We need D-men..

It pisses me off to think of what we could have been if we had selected Fowler and Hamilton instead of Niederreiter and Strome. Unfortunately that is that past and we have to look towards the future.

This upcoming draft and off season should be a good one.

So it's looking like we will pick somewhere between 7-9, and I really like all three D-men Trouba, Reinhart and Ceci.. I'm not even gonna bring up Murray or Dumba because I am assuming they will be gone... I just posted a thread in the prospects section, "Reinhart, Trouba or Ceci" because I want to hear from people who see these guys on a regular basis....... I would love one of these 3 guys, just not sure which one yet..... Nice dilemma to have.. I think all three will be very solid.

God I really hope Strome is something really solid, because not only did we pass on Hamilton, we passed on Couturier as well, and Couturier was a consensus top 3 guy all year till the end.... Imagine Tavares, Couturier, Nelson....... nevermind.....

I think Strome will be worth the wait...... but Nino scares me.. anyway, this is all stuff for the prospect thread.... In this draft thread, hope springs eternal!!

If Edmonton picks second(and picks a forward) there is a chance a defenseman falls a few spots. If Edmonton picks third though I see them taking a defenseman

OK, I get being disappointed with Nino over Fowler, considering the year Nino has had and how good Fowler has been... but how can it piss you off that Strome was picked over Dougie Hamilton??

First of all, I don't remember anyone saying they wanted Hamilton at the time of the draft. All I remember is people saying they would be very pissed if we did end up drafting him. Second, neither of them have even played an NHL game yet(pretty sure Dougie hasn't). Both have tremendously high ceilings.

Is it our weak defense that makes you feel this way? Down on Strome? High on Dougie? All three? Please explain...

I like defense. I like a deep, talented, and diverse defensive core.

Tell me this doesn't look amazing.
AMac - Hamonic
Streit - Dumba
Fowler - Hamilton

Sorry blink, but I was a huge Hamilton guy and wanted him at #5 over Strome. Larsson was my 1st choice, but we got screwed in the lottery. Dougie's been a beast this year in the OHL and is looking like he'll be a stud. The Kessel trade is looking worse and worse for the Leafs to me.

With that said, Strome was right behind Hamilton on my list. I loved his offensive upside and he's a RH shot that I thought could develop into an Ales Hemsky with some sandpaper. He'll probably stay at center, but it's a nice thought of him on JT's wing. He hasn't been dominant like Hamilton, but he's still got really exciting upside.

I hope that the Isles would address their defense this year with kids like Dumba, Murray, Trouba, Reinhart, Ceci, etc. I can see them going forward though, seems like the philosophy and they don't deviate from it. I hope Snow moves up back into the first to get a defenseman. Dalton Thrower looks like he won't fall into the 2nd round anymore. As much as I want Dumba or Murray, a Forsberg (just seems like prototypical Snow pick) and Thrower would be pretty awesome.

With Murray and Dumba looking more out of our reach....I would still be happy with Trouba,Ceci, or Rienhart....

Ceci too me is the type of guy who can become a steal

I would be happy if this were too happen....TBH I was not a fan off Drafting Forsberg but it seems many scouts who know more than us are very very High on this KId...He also seems like a "snow" type of pick.....Who knows could become the perfect winger for JT.....and As for Thrower you can go back and find that I have been all over this kid for awhile...I love his game and everything about it....I Though he would be a 3rd round steel but now he looks like he could go late 1st early 2nd....
