Solid move. He HAD to go. He was the weakest link so far this season.

This is solid asset management. You sign a NCAA free agent, develop him, use him when injuries pile up and then send him to a lesser team for a mid-round draft pick when his services are no longer required.

Letestu was one of my favorites, but i understand there was no room and he wasn't playing that well.

and that was one of my favorite moments of last season, came back from being down by 2, and then again when Wolski scored, with Letestu sealing the win in the shootout on his first career attempt.

i'm rootin for him. hopefully he'll be on the 3rd line and he doesn't have to try to play above his ability and create top six offense.

I will always like him for his "grease is good" comment. Oh well, happy trails my friend.

It is funny how quickly things can change though. Last year when Staal was out and Testie was filling the role of our 3rd line C, people were saying we could trade Staal and Testie would be more than suitable at that position.

My how the mighty have fallen. It's too bad he was forced into a top six role, bc he did look solid last year as a 3C.

Was expecting a late 3rd and Columbus's 4th is hopefully going to be a early 4th so that is great for an undrafted player.

If he had stayed in his 3C role, who knows what he might have done for us. The injury and being forced into the top 6 didn't help things. His play this fall was the icing on the cake.

Letestu is a classic guy that got overrated like so many borderline NHL talent guys in the past. I am not even a huge Staal fan but couldn't believe anyone thought "Testie" would be a true good 3rd liner. Good for him though, that 1st month last year where he scored some right place, right time goals got him a guarnteed NHL contract for a few years. But in the end he will be a forgetten name or a name like Fata, Stone, Filewich, etc that people laugh at and can't believe they actually thought he would be something.

^^^That.
He hit a predictable slump playing against opponents top checkers and just couldn't find his game again.
It would be a different story if we weren't so deep at C.

Dan loved him though and played him religiously right up until the last little stretch.

Yep, it sad to see Letestu's play fall off so dramatically, but he had to go at this point.

The dude is slow, not physical, weak on the puck... and he isn't very useful when he isn't scoring or putting up points.

Yeah, he couldn't have really been traded to a better location logistically speaking.

Sooooo... Does Shero have to wait, or can he go ahead and draft that elusive defensive defenceman right away?

I did predict Shero would horde picks going into a draft so deep with defence

This is pretty much the deal I was hoping for when we were discussing Letestu's trade value a week ago. Some were asking for another bottom sixer, while I was hoping for a 4th-5th round pick. I think we got a fair return for a guy that just didn't seem to have anything going thus far this season, and who we would've very likely lost for free when trying to clear waivers.

Columbus could have picked him up for free if they'd been willing to wait a little while. Nice job by Shero to get something of value for a guy who was gonna get waived.

There were probably other teams in on him which is why they couldn't afford to wait for waivers.

I'd imagine Disco Dan has this playing on loop in his office, while sipping on an adult beverage.

I'm going to descend into the realm of wild unfounded speculation. My guess is that Shero went to some other teams who could use a faceoff specialist and said "I'll trade this guy to you now for a conditional pick. If you wait for him to go on waivers, Columbus will take him." Then he went to Columbus and said "x team is willing to give me a 4th rounder for Letestu."

The rumors of him being shopped were that the Pens were talking to several teams. That was said very clearly before he was traded.

If we ever get rid of Adams, Disco's condition will get a LOT worse than a sad song and a brewski!

For sure. Disco would be leading the drum circle at #OccupyShero'sOffice.

I guess we should just totally ignore the other big names taken by the pens with their 4th pick; here is the impressive list dating back to 1989 since you brought up recchi.

Todd Nelson
Chris Tamer (not horrible, just bad)
Joe Tamminen
Todd Klassen
Jonas Andersson-Junkka
Tom O'Connor
Oleg Belov
Michal Rozsival (had a couple of good years in the nhl, just not with the pens)
Alexander Mathieu
Scott Myers
Ryan Malone (steal of a pick, probably the ONLY player from the 4th round to amount to anything)
Michel Ouellet (always surprised he kind of disappeared from the NHL when he put up respectable numbers)
Ben Eaves
Tomas Surovy
Daniel Fernholm
Paul Bissonnette
Tyler Kennedy
Tommi Leinonen
Luca Caputi (he's so horrible)
Alex Grant
Nathan Moon
Nick Petersen

The bottom line is that the 4th round is a crap shoot and looking back at previous drafts, there are only a couple of guys taken in that round who make it to the NHL. But considering Letestu was undrafted and has been playing awful this season and the second half of last season, a 4th round pick is fair. But dont expect to see this 4th rounder in the league, ever.
