I'd just like to take this time to wish 4th Round Pick luck in his new endeavors. He was a gritty SOB. Bon Voyage.

#CBJ GM Scott Howson tells Dispatch the Letestu trade is not a precursor to another deal.

I saw them, hopefully he can perform up to those numbers. Just discouraging to see us bring in someone who is slumping in the middle of this train wreck the cbj are in right now. Hopefully it is a depth/salary move for another trade in the works.

Decent trade. And of course Howson would say this isn't a pre-cursor, like he'll go "yeah im talking to *insert team name here* about *player name*"

Letestu's not physical and he's a step slower than you'd like to see, but he's definitely an NHL quality player. He's never been a winger in the Penguins system nor has he been on the penalty kill.

He's got a deceptively quick release, good vision, and above average face-off skills. His best work was with speedy wingers like Chris Conner, Tyler Kennedy, and Pascal Dupuis.

You won't see any Penguins fans crying at his loss, but don't take that as an indication that Letestu can't play good hockey. Letestu leaving now means a spot on the active roster is opening up for Crosby or Kennedy to come off IR.

Edit:
Letestu's best work as a Penguin:

No, he's just been completely outplayed by Park and Vitale and so he has no place on our roster. He's not bad, we just have a crazy amount of center depth. A 4th sounds about right for him. I hope he works out for you guys.

Please tell me you're lying to Porty, Scott.

It doesn't seem to make any sense to give up draft picks for another center at this point, unless something is going down. Not to mention adding salary. Are we going to try to have 8 centers in our top 9?

our d sucks and we can't score more than two goals a game, but we trade for a center who hasn't scored for the penguins who are actually good. Some d help better be on the way.

Uh, you're missing the point.... He was traded to our sorry assed team, the worst run organization in the NHL! He prolly would have rather gone to Scranton than come here!

Been said above, his stats last year weren't bad.

Letestu is a victim of numbers in Pittsburgh. Nothing more, nothing less. Joe Vitale is a better fourth line player than Letestu would be and the return of Richard Park's solid play has pushed him down the depth chart. He wasn't going to be switched to the wings with the veterans in the bottom six there coupled with Letestu's strength at faceoffs and positioning.

When Letestu has played for the Penguins this year he's not been playing much, and mostly on a Staal and Kennedy-less third line or out of his element on the fourth line (he's a pure third liner). It's been evident since August that Letestu wasn't not going to be a Penguin for much longer.

Last year he was a damn fine third line center, great on the faceoffs, good along the boards, solid positionally, hard worker, smart kid...he just doesn't have much natural skill and got overwhelmed when he was asked to jump into the first line center role for the Penguins last year, and he struggled to bounce back. It may have been a need for a change of scenery, or maybe just the need to be put into the position he was born to play, third line center...which wasn't going to happen in Pittsburgh without 2 of the big 3 out of the line-up. We'd like to think the days of that being the norm are in the past...

If he can recover and play like he did for the first two months of last year, he'll be a steal for you. If not he's still a damn solid bottom sixer on a very friendly contract through next year. I've been calling his value late third-mid fourth for a while now...and that's exactly what he got in return. I think both teams will end up being pleased when things are all said and done.

Good luck to Letestu and the Blue Jackets.

You have to really feel for a guy who goes from a legitimate contender to.. well, this.

Whatever Howson says/denies, there is no way that this isn't a precursor with Carter and Boll back and Juice coming back soon. Way too crowded.

Someone brought up that Brass/Vermette could be moved for some D, that would be an intriguing possibility.

Unimpressed.

I guess Howson can say that we are not going into Thursdays game with the exact same roster.
