Columbus Center to Buffalo or any other center

With Columbus acquiring another center. Can we acquire Brassard or Vermette?

I still think we need another Center and we need to package a winger and defenseman back

By removing a winger (many should have decent value on our team and depending on the quality of a center add defenseman and or a pick) we have almost to many top 6 style wingers that we should try to get a Center from a team with center depth.

I would also still look to do a minor league deal like Hamill for Persson. Trade a prospect D for C to add to our prospect pool and help the Amerks with scoring. We lack prospects with a lot of scoring potential.

Thoughts?

Brassard has a $3.2 million cap hit and Vermette has a $3.75 cap hit. The Sabres can't afford either one unless equal or greater salary goes back the other way.

That said, I'd love to have Vermette. He'd be an excellent third line center and could play on the second line if needed.

Our center depth is not an issue right now.

The Jackets are looking to improve on the blueline and the Sabres D has been a pile of hot scrambled crap for a few weeks now. They'd have to replace one with another cheaper option. Unless Hecht is basically on LTIR for the season, it doesn't look like they could easily shift the salary around to make it happen.

I'm not sure we make a good trading partner for the Jackets.

If they are looking for defense. The most realistic options we would look to move out are Grags and Weber. Neither of whom would be all that enticing as a centerpiece if we wanted Brassard or Vermette. They also have low cap hits and would require us to move out more salary.

That said I wouldn't mind if they made a run at Brassard. He is still relatively young and has some untapped potential. putting him with the offensive talent we currently have may be just what the doctor order to get his game going. Although I am a bit leery of his hand injury issues.

I like Vermette as well.

If we're talking Brassard, I like these proposals.

how has pahlsson been recently? if we were to make a run at a center, i'd rather it be of the defensive variety given the questionable health of hecht

He'd be a good utility fourth line player, but he'd lock Gaustad into being the third line pivot, and that would really mess with the flexibility of the lineup.

In what way? Gaustad is already locked into the third line center spot.

For now, yeah, but I'd rather add another top 9 center than a fourth line guy. Adding Pahlsson means that if we move to add a top six power forward, the "missing piece" for a lot of folks, either Adam is dropping out of the top six, or Stafford is going down to the third line.

Now, Gerbe-Gaustad-Stafford certainly has the potential to be a great unit, and Tropp, Boyes and Kaleta have all looked good on that right wing while being worse players, but I'd much rather spend actual assets on someone like Vermette, who adds a ton of flexibility to the lineup.

Why would adding a bottom 6 center like Letestu then allow the Jackets to move a top 6 center?

I don't get that one.

Leino + pick for either. We tell them he's been hurt so far this season and he's all healthy now.

There are still posters against the idea that Goose is a 3rd line center?

No, I think he is. It's just that if we're adding a center, I'd rather add one over Gaustad than under him. Goose is going to get his minutes regardless of whether he's on the third or fourth line, and I expect Gerbe-Goose-Kaleta to get put together when the going gets tough, regardless of where its components were playing earlier.

if we were to get any center from columbus i think we'd target vermette. this would be a great acquisition considering gaustad doesnt resign in the offseason. however i dont see buffalo making any moves at the moment with how certain player are playing. ik how people would love to ship off leino but if we did that i think it would send a bad message to other players considering signing here in the offseason. if there were to be a trade id hope it look something like this...

to buffalo:

vermette
2012 2nd roud pick or mid lvl dman

to columbus:

hecht
sekera or leopold

to be honest hecht has been phased out by adam and im sure hes not going to find any more playing time on this team. as for sekera i think he's expendable. i really think they should be targeting a stay at home dman to play with ehrhoff so he can start to play at his full potential.
