"The ‘now’ is very good in Chicago. The ‘now’ back in the days when they were drafting first, second and third? It wasn’t very good. But the core of fans that stuck with them, if you asked them now, I betcha they’d say it was worth it.” - Kevin Cheveldayoff

Looking at Maxwell's stats the guy wasn't really a scorer in junior or the A, don't think he is much more than a 3rd or 4th line AHL player.

He scored 58 points in 73 games for the Hamilton Bulldogs in 2008 as a 20 year old rookie. Tied for team lead. So I guess you have no idea what you are talking about.

I'm guessing WPG didn't expect him to get claimed. Tough break.

I'm glad he got a chance elsewhere. It didn't look like there was much of a spot here (especially when Fehr returns).

Ducks fan here, what should we expect from Maxwell?

I can't say I've really seen him play, juts wondering what we're getting. We seriously need some bottom 6 depth, so hopefully he can slot in.

Pros:
- 2 way game - very responsible defensively
- great skater
- good faceoff man
- Has shown offensive upside in AHL, not yet in NHL.
- Can play Wing

Cons:
- Physicality, albeit better than previous seasons he still needs to learn the mans game
- Low offensive output in NHL

Really think WPG shot themselves in the foot on this one. In my mind Ben would be a great depth player in the organization as he can play the 2 way game on both Center and wing.

WPG never gave him the chance he needed, he was averaging less than 5 mins of ice. Even though he is twice the player that Stapleton is.

Good to see Maxwell gets a shot elsewhere.

I think he'll end up being reclaimed by Winnipeg for St. John's.

Sorry, eluded to mention his one good year way back in 2008, too bad he really hasn't done much since and at almost 24 should be getting into his prime! I might have undersold him he is probably a 2nd line AHL player!

One good year?

2009-2010 - 57gp 16g 28A 44pts
2010-2011 - 47gp 11g 29A 40pts

Those are both good numbers in the low scoring AHL.

He should have good numbers again this year playing alongside Dan Sexton with the Syracuse Crunch. Wish you all the best Ben.

Holden volunteered to do this one but he also did the last 3 so maybe he's burnt out. I gotta drive my girlfriend to the dentist, so I can't make one today.

I believe we just claim him back because he can go straight to St. John's if/when Anaheim puts him on waivers.

I don't see how Stapleton was played over him.

Without looking at the Ducks line-up, I would assume he would be on their NHL roster. He can add a little depth to a team that has very little. Guy does a lot of little things well. I'm confident he'll have an NHL career.

Anyways, this is poor asset management, IMO. We now sit at a 22 man roster with only 12 FWDS with two players that can be sent down without clearing waivers (Postma and McArdle). There was no reason to place Maxwell on waivers, and another case of them not giving him a real chance, instead going with Tim ****ing Stapleton.

Haha you should quit while you're ahead. If the Ducks don't keep him on their roster, they will have to waive him and the Jets will reclaim him.

Yeah, I don't understand keeping McArdle in lieu of Maxwell - not that Maxwell got a lot of ice time, but he looked like a better choice over McArdle and Stapleton.

Makes you wonder if a healthy Fehr is about to come off the LTIR and onto the roster? Not sure why they would waive a player other than to make room at this point.

McArdle isn't exempt from waivers.

Fehr is now skating in a white jersey instead of the no contact red jersey. The 1st step in coming back.

I didn't get the point of putting Maxwell on waivers to begin with. First Stapleton and McArdle get waived and then stick around for whatever reason, and then Winnipeg's management gets shafted by Anaheim claiming Maxwell. Good job guys!

Hopefully they stop this waiver wire silliness now.

Money was probably a consideration. Maxwell gets paid $715,000 in the NHL and $62,500 if sent down. Stapleton is on a one way contract worth $525,000. Stapletons contract isn't that expensive, but we are stuck with it. (How I would love to make $525,000 per year )

With Fehr returning soon there really isn't a need for either player in the lineup, but at least they could try to move Maxwell.
