Jeff Carter could be what we need though - a selfish player thinking of his stat line first. Basically a much better Michael Ryder.

Although I'd love him, Carter's not going anywhere. I'd be ecstatic if we could ship Campbell + Morrow + Robidas etc for him. But it won't happen.

Is Carter really the best long-term compliment to Benn? They play pretty similar games.

I have a hard time thinking he's really available. I mean, Howson might as well just fire himself if he is.

Beside being a good faceoff guy I've never really understood why Carter is a center. I may be offbase but everything about him screams winger to me; he's a volume shooter, has a shoot first mentality, not great at making those around him better...He's a good talent, but I'm not sure he's the kind of player you want in your organization for the next decade. I want no part of a contract with that term, regardless of who he is.

1. Get Jeff Carter. He's a guy that I think would thrive in Dallas. He has a very Modano personality.

2. Let Modano do what he wants. I love him. Sign him if he wants to play, who is he going to take time away from, Peterson? Dowell? Barch? Who cares.

He'll probably take Barch's spot and will see few quality minutes.

And I'll bet they put him on either the first or second line.

I feel much better about Vincour joining the team having shown over past months that he can score goals consistently at the AHL level.

That seems awfully optimistic considering how Larsen has been utilized.

I have a feeling things will become slightly more drastic with each loss, if it does continue. It has also been confirmed that Larsen will play against Edmonton. I assume Pardy and either Petersen or Barch will sit, depending on how physical of a game they plan on playing.

Ya, as Undecided said, Mark confirmed that Larsen and Vincour would be in the lineup on Monday:

Gully not sure who's coming out, but I'd be on Peterson and Pardy.

Petersen had several miscues trying to clear the zone while Barch actually did something useful in sticking up for his teammate, so I would hope it's Petersen.

Pardy, for his part, is making me question whether he's any better than Woywitka, which just pains me to say.

So far...
Woywitka - 12GP 4P +4 4PM
Pardy - 10GP 0P -7 6PM

He also costs more than twice as much, and is signed for 2 years.

But, the season is still young; I guess it is possible he just hasn't settled in yet?

So far Woywitka was absolutely better than Pardy. That really hurts to say, but is a testament to how god awful Pardy is.

Frankly I was surprised there seemed to be so much optimism surrounded the Pardy acquisition from the get go. He is a 27 year old dman who has yet to establish himself as a positive NHL contributor. I suspect he and his agent both were floored that Dallas was willing to offer him 2 million a year.

I want to say it was just a move to make it easier to be cap compliant this season, but if that were true you wouldn't have expected it to be for 2 years.

Joe said they saw something in him that thought he had untapped potential. Wouldn't be the first time they've swung and missed. It happens, hopefully if he really sucks they'll have no qualms waiving him with a new owner now.

I'd really know to know if anyone else offered him anything even close to 2 million per.

Anyway, given a real chance, I have zero doubts that Larsen shows himself to be a better NHLer than Pardy. Id love to see him get some time with Souray while Robidas gets pushed down the lineup for awhile. That guy has had a terrible season. Actually id truly like to see something like this
Souray - Daley
Grossman - Larsen
Fistric - Robidas
