Content with current roster; will be looking for a potential offensive upgrade on the blue line closer to the deadline.

Cody Franson apparently isn't gelling with the Leafs organization very well; could possibly get him for a relatively low price. Never been a huge fan of his, but he has some offensive upside.

Burkie doesn't seem like the type of guy that will give up Franson for cheap to his former team, especially with the relationship he's had with Gillis.

Especially after hearing that Gillis may have outbid for Booth. Suck it Burkie!

Believe there was one other team sniffing around Booth. That's got Toronto written all over it, but the Maple Leafs say, "No sir."

There is one player I think would fit this team, and that's Chris Neil. One more season at 2M is a bit steep, but he brings an added dimension that is currently lacking.

Sedin - Sedin - Burrows
Booth - Kesler - Hodgson
Raymond - Malhotra - Higgins
Neil - Lapierre - Hansen

is a delightful forward group.

That's beautiful, but unfortunately Neil is to OTT what Hansen is to us, worth a ton more as a person than the assets it would take to get him. OTT would probably want a 1st or a 2nd

I would however swap Hodg, Manny & Higgins. Put Higgy on the 2nd line and let Hodgson 3C

This is what I'm thinking in terms of for a playoff lineup:

Trade Connauton to Nashville for Tootoo

Daniel Sedin ($6.100m) / Henrik Sedin ($6.100m) / Alexandre Burrows ($2.000m)
Chris Higgins ($1.900m) / Ryan Kesler ($5.000m) / David Booth ($4.250m)
Mason Raymond ($2.500m) / Cody Hodgson ($1.666m) /Jannik Hansen ($1.350m)
Jordan Tootoo ($1.250m) / Maxim Lapierre ($1.000m) / Manny Malhotra ($2.500m)
/ Dale Weise ($0.605m)

DEFENSEMEN
Alexander Edler ($3.250m) / Dan Hamhuis ($4.500m)
Keith Ballard ($4.200m) / Kevin Bieksa ($4.600m)
Andrew Alberts ($1.225m) / Sami Salo ($2.000m)
Aaron Rome ($0.750m)

GOALTENDERS
Roberto Luongo ($5.333m) / Cory Schneider ($0.900m)

CAP SPACE (22-man roster): $1,320,001

and also at the deadline, acquire a spare dman like Hal Gill for a late pick.

Apparently you were right, from I've heard Hodgson is being pencilled in as the 3rd line centre tonight.

From my perspective I feel the team should play each player to his strengths - and I'm not sure putting Hodgson on a checking line is the best fit for him. I think Higgins would excel in that role, so why not allow Hodgson to continue in the top 6 (where is the only place he will make it). He'll be less effective as the 3rd line centre than he will be trying to set up Kesler and Booth.

That's why I like Booth - Kesler - Hodgson, and Higgins - Malhotra - Hansen.

But what do I know...

AV will juggle the line if things don't work out. I think if Higgins is the deadweight on the Kesler line, Hodgson is the first to get moved up in favour of him. If Higgins is producing? Let that line roll.

Though Manny's an offensive blackhole, he's playing with Hodgson because he's a defensive stud and can cover Hodgson's rookie mistakes - if he makes any.

Hell, I like it. If we can get a spare dman, I'd prefer it from a team already in the West, though.

Nashville doesn't need more D prospects, but I would love Tootoo on our team.

Weber is an RFA and would have to be traded after July 1st, Tootoo would be a UFA/traded at the deadline which is before July 1st

He doesn't need to be traded, he can be signed to an offer sheet. Plus, it was meant more in jest.

Well the offer sheet would have to be tendered post FA so.... it still doesn't make sense

I would prefer to trade Connauton right away too-- Don't this guy will ever make the NHL doing any worthwhile capacity. Does he even have the value to land Tootoo though? Doesn't sound like it.

Pretty soon (or, at some point in the season) doesn't Hodgson's cap hit change from $1.6 to $.8 (once he can't reach his bonuses)? If so, the difference is a decent salary amount that can be added to acquire someone at the deadline...

When you aren't using LTIR cap hits get lower throughout the year. It gets divided by 1/82nd after every game.

Yes...

My understanding is that Cody's cap hit would (or could) have been $.8 instead of $1.6 this year... where bonuses can be deferred to the following year... But because there is no long term CBA deal with the NHLPA, Cody's bonuses need to count against the cap this year... until the bonuses can't be reached... Once the bonuses aren't reached, my understanding is that's cap space that can be used for another player...

How are you guys making these imaginary rosters on Capgeek? All I can see is the 2012-13 Calculator. Is there an option for this year that I don't see somewhere?

The cap is calculated daily, not by game (185 days this season) and players' daily cap hit remains the same all year (other than with bonuses which become impossible to attain).

As for the Hodgson question, from what I understand most bonuses on ELCs are based on the entire season, so it never really becomes impossible to reach until the end of the year. For instance Hodgson might have bonuses for getting 20 goals, getting 60 points, having a certain points per game, a high plus/minus rating, making the All Rookie Team, finishing top 10 in NHL trophy voting etc. None of those can be truly determined until the season's over so they'll count towards the upper limit all year.

The only stuff that would disappear would be things reliant on games played or on benchmarks during the year (making the All Star game for instance), so if he has anything like that, then some of his bonuses might disappear. But I wouldn't count on those taking up a huge portion of his cap hit.

I will continue my Cody Franson point, according to LeBrun he is available. Yes, yes...I know Brian Burke apparently hates us or whatever, but the guy would solve a number of problems:
-He's a natural right-side, right-handed defenseman with size
-He scored 8 goals and 29 points in Nashville averaging 15 minutes per game
-He only makes $800k, and is still a RFA after this season
-I can't imagine he'd cost more then a 2nd rounder or mid-tier prospect at this point
