Columbus manages to lose in a shootout, despite a great game from their goalie.
Still, that's one more point they gained on us.

You know it's in the rulebook that goalies are protected.
If goalies were open season, no one would want to play goalie under those circumstances.

At least that incident will put a damper on the "dump the trapezoid and let wandering goalies get hit" threads.

Minnesota wins in a shootout. Koivu with both goals in regulation, Cullen with the shootout winner. Cullen is 4-for-4 in shootouts this season..
The win, combined with Chicago's possible loss (down 5-1 at the end of the first), makes Minnesota first in the West. Minnesota....first in the West. That just sounds odd.

Florida first in the division also sounds odd.

Amazing what good coaches can do with a decent roster.

What, Florida? I wouldn't even call their roster all that decent, albeit it's better then their past few years. Dineen is just that good of a coach IMO.

Yep. Your post a few days ago that compared our roster to their roster was one of the best posts in regards to this team i've read in a long, long time. On paper, I haven't a single doubt that this Canes team is quite a bit better than Florida.
The difference, as you stated, is simply coaching. And I believe that to be the God honest truth.

Florida's roster is good enough to win games. They don't have the star forward, but they've got a large group of hard-working second liners. And in this game, effort often triumphs over skill.

Then why isn't Chad LaRose a superstar?
Florida is still Florida until proven otherwise IMO. I fully expect them to fade as the year wears on.

The real question is, why isn't Staal?

any roster full of 2nd liners trumps a roster of 1 star 1 phenom and a group of 3rd & 4th liners-(and when i say 1 star i mean larose)

With all this fanfare about Crosby's return you'd think that he was the Pope of hockey or something.

Succumbing to the Sid hype here. Mainly watching that game as opposed to our 5-2 loss.

Nick Bergfors on waivers, I'd take a chance on him, anyone else?

Don't bother, he couldn't make it on the most defensively responsible teams.
