no...its about the quality of their dump and chase game. that they are dumping and chasing is what they have to do v that trap. they just need to forecheck better
We will have to agree to disagree, because I can guarantee that if you watch other good teams playing NJ you will see them net the zone in a variety of ways, not only by dump and chase. And even if you thought dump and chase was the ONLY way to attack it, is fochecking not something that is practiced??? A what point does our years of ineffective forechecking and cycling fall on BB? Oh I forgot, he has the best Caps winning percentage.
Incidentally that last zone entry was EXACTLY what I was describing and led to our only decent chance. We went with speed and the puck was passed to a location with touch so Chimera could get to it. Must have been an accident.
The notion that the Caps are either too chicken to forecheck or too dumb is ridiculous. There are a lot of variables that go into forechecking, and if two Caps aren't going in to forecheck there's probably a good reason. Guys may not be in position to get there, and that goes all the way back to their zone exit. Or if the opponent moves the puck before you get a chance to set up the forecheck (something we know very little about on this team). Everyone likes to turn it into an effort thing. Everything related to positioning is effort related. So every player that McPhee brings on this team is a slacker.
