That is irrelevant. Abdelkader would have removed his visor if he wasn't jumped (assuming the Oiler player agrees to remove his). The Oiler player did not allow Abdelkader the chance to remove his visor. However, the Oiler player did increase the possible injury to Abdelkader (his hands) in addition to te original instigator.
46.6 Face Protection - If a player penalized as an instigator of an altercation is wearing a face shield (including a goalkeeper), he shall be assessed an additional unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.
Should the player (including a goalkeeper) who instigates the fight be wearing a face shield, but removes it before instigating the altercation, the additional unsportsmanlike conduct penalty shall not apply.
The reason this rule isn't called much is because instigating in general isn't called much. Even in situations where there is a clear aggressor for a fight. But if a guy gets called for instigating and is wearing a visor it's automatic.
