Dan Girardi

I have to give credit where credit is due; I never made it clear to the posters here, but in the back of my mind, I was scared out my mind about the possibility of Girardi falling flat on his face without Staal.

However, he has been remarkable thus far. Back to back ~30 minute games, and helping to shut down quite possibly the most dangerous line in hockey. He is molding into a true 1st pairing defenseman.

I'm amazed at how he's really stepped up his physical game.
I also believe Joe Micheletti said if Girardi scores 15 goals this year he'll win the Norris.

Absolutely, Girardi is just a rock back on defense. Every bit as good as Staal

When Staal comes back, I'd like him to play with MDZ. McDonagh and Girardi have been a legit top shutdown pairing so far. Let Staal and MDZ face opposing team's secondary players and we'll see their points go up.

Oh alright haha. Was facing the computer for a second when he said it.

But if he does score 15 goals its not too far fetched that he could be in the Norris running.

You can tell Girardi is a heart and soul guy. He's done everything one could ask of him thus far.

I vote in favor of new nickname

He eats the defenders (supernova's) that he finds.

MDZ does not deserve 2nd pair minutes, he is at best a 3rd pair guy right now and really needs seasoning in the A. His decision making is horrendous!!

But I digress, this thread is about Girardi who has been an absolute BEAST in 2 games. 30+ min both nights, hitting everything, blocking shots, good outlet passes, an absolute monster!

Have to love McDonagh's game so far. He has top pairing potential written all over him!

McDonagh's been no Staal, not that we've expeted him to be at this point . But Girardi has really taken his game up a notch, I've been impressed.

MDZ was not that bad. He made a really really stupid play in OT, I'll give you that. Besides that, did he really do anything throughout the game that would make you say he didn't play well? Anyway, no way Torts is putting MDZ and Erixon together, that'd be a disaster. Therefore, MDZ gets 2nd line minutes.

girardi has been an absolute beast. and mcdonagh in my opinion has been stellar as well. that one bs call in ot should not diminish his play so far. excellent.. we are gonna be fine and that much better when staal gets back.

There should be no question that Girardi is a top pairing defenseman at this point. A number one guy? Not really, he doesn't put up enough of points. But one of the top shut down guys in the game? Absolutely. When Staal gets back, I'd like to see...

Staal-Erixon
McD-Girardi
DZ-Sauer

Three very well balances pairs that can shut the opposition down and move the puck up ice. Put Staal and Girardi back together when playing Washington and Pittsburgh.

It worked better with the Avery avatar

No seriously, Girardis puck moving is not great, and I think he gets to much credit for his defense. Rangers got pressured to much in their own zone today and yesterday. Still he was the best D for Rags today.

I'm not a rags fan but I'm not trolling, I'd like for you to succeed. Unless you play the Red Wings.
