Penguins Report: Game Day vs. Colorado 11-15-11

10:00 AM:
The Pens have recalled forward Dustin Jeffrey from WBS. He played 2 games in a conditioning assignment in WBS. He's continuing his progress from offseason knee surgery.

In Sam Kasan's Crosby's first game at Mellon/home video pick, I heard this.

Sidney Crosby's first goal.

Crosby-less Pens set to host Avalanche

Team Scope:

Avalanche: In its last two outings the Avalanche have vastly outperformed their opponents yet they split those two games with an OT win, and a regulation loss.

Indeed, Colorado's five-game winning streak on the road early on in the season seems to be a lone bright spot for a club that has struggled to play consistently since that span. Perhaps the Hejduk's new appointment will spark that desired consistency and will help prevent Colorado from falling behind early, which was the case in Colorado's last two games.

"When you are down behind the 8-ball, it is tough," Matt Duchene said. "(Calgary is) a good team. We'll take the negative and positive away from this game and learn from both."

Colorado battled back from a three-goal deficit to best the New York Islanders, 4-3, in overtime on Thursday however they were unable to accomplish a similar comeback against the Flames on Saturday night, falling 4-3 despite rifling 16 shots in the third period alone, but it was too little too late for Colorado.

"The end was similar to the Islanders game," Hejduk said. "It is just hard to come back every game."

2:08 PM:
Coachspeak with Dan Bylsma…

On if there is a tangible sign that Sidney Crosby and the doctors are looking for:
In terms of on-ice stuff there isn’t something we are looking for. The doctors will be looking at the next level. I’m not educated on or know what that is.

On clarifying Crosby’s status:
We stated we will let (the media) know when he is playing. It’s not going to be a secret. I’m not telling anything else other than there is no change in his status.

1:24 PM:
Pens coach Dan Bylsma said there is no change in Sidney Crosby's status and that Tyler Kennedy (concussion) and Steve Sullivan (lower body) will be game-time decisions on Tuesday.

11:23 AM:
Pens lines at practice:

Crosby-Malkin-Neal
Kunitz-Staal-Dupuis
Cooke-Park-Asham
Tangradi-Vitale-Adams

(Kennedy rotating with Park)

11:20 AM:
The Pens are on the ice for practice. Steve Sullivan, who left Saturday's game with a lower-body injury, is not practicing. All healthy forwards and defensemen are out there, along with Crosby and Kennedy.

I really hope Bylsma switches up those defense pairings. Enough of the Letang/Martin and Orpik/Engelland duos already. Go back with Orpik/Letang and put Martin with Engelland.

Other than that, here's hoping a certain #87 is in the lineup for the Pens.

I eagerly await the day when I can start using the term "Crosboners" in my excited live game chatter again. Hopefully that day is Tuesday.

Wishful thinking. If Crosby plays how do the the lines shake up. I see:
Kunitz Crosby Dupuis
Sullivan Malkin Neal
Cooke Staal Asham
Park Vitale Adams
Tangradi

But he probably won't... Sooooo let's move on.

I guess Crosby's return really will be a sudden event. No warning, just him stepping on the ice without any prior announcement. Don't expect him for this game though.

Hopefully with Fleury back in goal, we won't have to play catch-up again. I'm looking for another dominating performance by Staal. It's time he plays spectacular for two games in a row. Also seems that the apparent nonchalance Malkin displays on a 5 on 3/powerplay won't go away. We just have to accept that fact.

I don't usually make predictions but I'm feeling fairly confident about this game.

- Malkin will be pretty ticked off that he didn't score last game, he's going to get at least two points in this one, at least one of them will be a goal.

- Our fourth line scores.

- With Colorado's goaltending on a bit of a cold streak and our offense coming into its own, we score at least 5 goals.

- With Fleury in net and Bylsma making the appropriate adjustments to our defense (whether that pairings or going over their big mistakes with them) after the Carolina game, we allow one goal.

Colorado isn't terrible this year but I'm hoping we get our first big blowout.

I heard Crosby is getting cleared for game action today!*

5-0 against east teams. We play to the level of our competition and always better against the best teams in the east.

Hope this trend continues but could easily see it ending tomorrow.

Honestly I hope to see Crosby in, a) because it will be good to see him back in action and b) because I think it might actually benefit the Avs since chemistry could be thrown off among your lines

I've got an unhealthy man-crush on Duchene. I just love the way the kid plays (but hopefully he goes pointless this game ).

It's going to end up being the world's worst best kept secret.

I reckon we should win this but Colorado's record against teams in the east is something to take note of. I'm looking forward to see Duchene and Landeskog.

To help TV in U.S. and Canada, Pens will announce 1 day in advance before Sidney Crosby plays.
