Enroth in net .... Can he? Will he? Is he?

I figured it was a good time to start an ongoing game by game evaluation of Enroth. Since his time is NOW to show what he has game after game with little to no time off to rest and reflect. Being thrown to the wolves here. Let's see how he does.

So far this season he had played very well overall. Still some minor things to improve on, but that is a good thing. Hopefully he can grow and get better thru this stretch.

Can he keep up this very good goaltending?

Will he out perform Miller?

Is he the real deal?

Will this team play noticeably better in this stretch while Miller is out?

Honestly, I think it's good Enroth is in there now. Miller's a mercurial guy, Enroth's as chill as Jack Johnson with a bowl of weed in a hammock on a summer day. With deadly reflexes.

Anyways, I think his persona helps get the team settled and focused. And right now I think the team is going to need some settling and focusing.

You mean helping the team make the playoffs last season wasn't a good barometer so we should only evaluate him now?

Our goaltending isn't really a concern of mine in any event.
But, Enroth appears to be a very capable netminder in the NHL to date.

Wish him luck on this journey he is about to embark on as Buffalo's number 1 netminder while Miller heals.

This situation is different that last year. But you know that. Right?

Miller would have been crucified for the second goal Enroth let in tonight.

I find it very amusing when every goal Miller allows is blamed on him, but Enroth gets a complete pass.

People's expectations (including my own) are very high of Miller. He's being paid like a king and I expect him to make a vast majority of saves. He has been getting hung out to dry by the D, but he's getting beat on ALL of the one on one opportunities. Enroth isn't paid much, and he's the back up, why would he get as much flak as Miller?

Yea, that second goal he let in was weak weak weak. But Enroth was overall solid, and the team played better and better after Montreal's second goal.

Neither points are relevant to me. The amount of money a player makes doesn't mean a thing when analyzing a player's play.

And it's a shame more people don't think this way. Take the paycheck out of it, THEN ask, has this player played the game of hockey up to the standards he's expected to play (past performance gauges the standards).

O Rly? So Matt Ellis should perform at the same level as Ilya Kovalchuk? Makes sense.

Not sure how anyone thinks the second goal was really that bad. The puck was bouncing and because of the delay he overpursued. It wasn't a good goal, no, but it really wasn't that terrible.

Also, Ryan Miller gets crucified for letting those goals in, and then most of the one on ones this season, too.

Enroth. There's room on the wagon baby

I think we know what Enroth is all about...I am almost interested to see MacIntyre when he gets in there...

I imagine Enroth will get all of the starts, but if there is a back to back, a weak match up, or any sign of fatigue I expect Macs in there.

No, he's not saying that. He's saying he doesn't set expectations based on salary. More likely, he bases it on potential, skill-set, experience, etc.

----

Enroth has shown he can let in plenty of "soft" goalies, but he seems to excel at timely saves and seems to only get better as the game goes on (Boston game not included, since he was thrown into a disaster).

If someone's arguing Matt Ellis should take Ilya Kovalchuk's job...then yes!

_____

As I've said all along, Jhonas will rue the day when/if he signs a big contract. As others pointed out, his "calm, cool demeanor" will then be perceived as "indifference and ambivalence." As soon as you sign a big contract in Buffalo, you're ****ed.

Miller also would've received the usual "out of position" argument on the first one.

And I want to see the Sabres ride Enroth as hard and long as Miller. I mean really push his limits (while Miller is out). That way there will be zero doubt about the starting goalie potential he really has. Right now it's an abstract thought with a little doubt. Anyone who is 100% confident Enroth is absolutely ready to be one of 30 starting #1 goalies, isn't being truthful IMO.

I don't like the goalie debate and I won't take sides. I root for whoever is in there to do good.

With saying that, I posted this in the GBU thread and probably should have here. I have crossed the line from hoping Enroth plays a good game to now expecting it.

His play has been very solid and the duo of Miller and Enroth can only help this team.

I think a lot of the time salaries are determined by the above, therefore I believe in judging a player by salary. Just like I believe someone in a regular job should be held to a higher standard when being paid more.

It was long overdue for Buffalo to have a capable backup. Enroth is proving how much they missed out on by not having one.

I hope he continues his solid play and I hope he's fortunate enough to have the team continue to play well in front of him.

This statement is pure nonsense.
Why do you think Miller get's paid the money he is getting paid?
It's because people "analyzed his play" and determined such, that's why.

I understand where you're coming from. For me I expect Enroth to make the saves Miller makes. I don't give Enroth a pass because he makes less money. I am not hyper critical of Miller and expect perfection because he makes millions.
