He's brutalized a few plays recently, especially one of the ugly 2 on 1s versus Boston.
So you're going to pull him out of there right away? Rej has played confident all season. No reason to pull him out because of a couple lousy games. He's easily been this teams best defenseman (outside of Regehr, of course).
I'm sure Lindy did this as a wake up call for Myers. "Hey, you got paid, but you're not a guaranteed starter in this lineup anymore."
I'm guessing it'll just be a game, maybe two. Not to say if he keeps playing the way he's been playing that it won't or shouldn't happen again.
We know what he's capable of. You don't play as well as he did for as long a period as he did, especially as a rookie, by accident. Him, like the majority of other players on this team lack confidence right now. I'm having trouble figuring that out though, I'm talking even before the Lucic ordeal....
I can't really tell with all the "hes" and "hims" in your post and the one you replied to, but I hope you're not referring to Gragnani.
Pretty much every defenseman but Regehr has played poorly this season. You still have to dress 6 each night.
IMO, if they're dressing Gragnani in 16 of 17 games, then they think he's one of their 6 best defensemen (obvious conclusion). The idea that they're knowingly dressing a player who they don't think is a better fit than Weber simply to retain his RFA rights next offseason makes no sense. If they didn't like his play, then why should they care about keeping his rights (obvious inference)?
Players like him get traded for a 7th round pick at the deadline all the time. They potentially get a small asset in return for him even if Weber takes his regular spot in the lineup so he's not a wasted asset even if he ends up below the Group VI threshold.
It makes no sense that they would think Weber is a better player (or better fit) than Gragnani and then keep Weber in the press box. That would mean they're intentionally not putting their best lineup on the ice and Gragnani is not an important enough asset to do that.
i have no issue with Tyler sitting against NJ...the 3rd period pairings played well together...Rej/Grags, Regehr/Weber, Leo/Ehrhoff. Curious to see if Lindy sticks with those, or goes back to the original pairings to start the game.
not a big deal to me either way, nobody was bad enough to warrant sitting imo.
