Jean-Gabiel Pageau

Any info on this guy?

He had 79 points in 67 games last year, got drafted in the 4th round, and has 31 points in 17 games this year.

Is he another junior scorer who won't make an impact in the NHL or is he a late round gem.

Obviously no one knows for sure, but share your thoughts, observations, what you've heard, just any info on this guy.

Ottawa's head scout, Pierre Dorion, is absolutely nuts about him, that's for sure. Unfortunately he just broke a finger and is out for the next month

He's ****ing good.
-Bryan Murray (that was an actual quote )

Word was Murray went with scouts to see Huberdeau (who they ended up trying to trade up for) in Gatineau. After leaving he told his Head Scout, just get me both #11's (Huberdeau and Pageau). They think Pageau has a shot in large part due to smarts. It was said during training camp he's one of the smartest prospects they've taken in years. Head Scout Pierre Dorion said it was his favourite pick in the draft.

It's an up hill climb and as a 4th round pick, it was one of those picks they said they could make because of the depth and number of picks they have now. Higher upside, bigger risk. Murray said they may have played Pageau in the AHL this year if they could.

Needs to develop physical game. Was told to work on his shot. Obviously get stronger. He acquitted himself well in his only pre-season game. Don't think skating should hold him back but clearly getting quicker will help his chances.

Really like this kid. He's been likened to Claude Giroux, and I definitely see it.

He's small. Like, five-nine-is-being-generous small. If he can overcome that, he has a pretty good shot at being an NHL regular.
