St-Denis ?? Come on. We have Stafford, Callahan and Henry in Hamilton who are better options than him.

Better? LOL...all four a scrubs. Wish the Rangers didn't take Woywitka from us before the season. Could have use him now.

He's the exact same age as me, and from the same home town. I'm also very involved in minor hockey in that city, and I've NEVER heard his name mentioned before.

Anyone know his story? Did he move at a young age?

We make a huge deal out of Torrey Mitchell from the Sharks because he's from Greenfield Park, so it seems weird I've never heard of St-Denis.

Towards the end of preseason he really didn't seem bad. It's worth a shot.

better OPTIONS

Emelin 6'2
Subban 6'
Gorges 6'
Weber 5'11
St-Denis 5'11
Diaz 5'11

Smallest D to ever play in the NHL... And they all have the same playstyle except Emelin

I am very happy for the call-up. Not necessarily because I think he will play well (although he seemed ok during pre-season) but I can't help but feel happy for the guy.

This is another story like DD. The guyy played 4 seasons in the Q and then had to go play at the UQTR because he couldn't find a contract, then went to the ECHl and so on... This guy had to work to be a pro and now it's paying off. I can't imagine how happy he would make him feel, to finally be rewarded for all his hard work. Even if he plays just one game with the Habs, you have to think that he'll be able to say that it was worth it.

Good luck man!

St-Denis is actually poised defensively la Gorges. Mind you, he will need time to adjust, something he might not have. But I think you won't see him much which is in reality a good thing.

Though like I said, there is a big discrepancy in prospects right now. We will have a lot more choices in 1, 2 or 3 years but until then, it's fragile.

That's what we could of have. We could even have kept Markov and still signed Cole. We only had to dump Gomez.
I miss Wiz

Gomez will not last if he cannot get more than 1 assist this year.

He was in my opinion the best defenceman not to make the team in the last pre-season games, and that includes Woywitka. Obviously, I would expect Woywitka to outperform him in real season games, but mostly for experience reasons. As said before, he did seem to be steady defensively while being able to move the puck. Not that much of an offensive threat. Whenever possible, Montreal has been known in the last few years to call-up Hamilton players who were on good streaks.

Well, we are plagued...again

I would have preferred an emergency callup for Tinordi IMO; I think at this point, Habs are in bad enough shape for that request, right? What are the conditions for emergency callups?

You'd think Henry would get the call-up given that he has actually played a game or two.

But St-Denis clearly must be outplaying him so makes sense to go with the guy who has a better future with the organization.

This. And it's only for 1 game where P.K. Subban will play between 26-30 minutes, Josh Gorges 22-28 minutes and Yannick Weber 22-26 minutes.

Subban/Gorges put us ahead of Columbus by a comfortable distance. Both are better than Wiz who is their #1. Nash is injured, Henry has to go through waivers.

Defensively Subban is a bit more responsible than Wiz, but still not the best in his won zone. Gorges is the best dman right now in Montreal.

If it was this sunday night and habs were playing the bruins the next day I would think that Henry would probably get the call... but against a fast team like the canes St-Denis is a better option imo

They have Tyutin and Methot who are big tough defensive guys. Our defensive zone will be a battlefield tomorrow

Happy to hear St-Denis is getting a shot. He was awesome in camp (go back and check the threads if you don't believe me). He was my #1 from Hamilton, even if I'm a huge Joe Stejskal fan. I also like Alex Henry a lot. At the same time, St-Denis is the closest guy to NHL caliber we have in the AHL and he could be a useful NHL guy at some point in his career.

I'm not worried having him in the line-up at all.

As for people calling him the "offensive-type", that's not really true. He's more of a Josh Gorges type player than a Diaz/Weber. He won't get beat very easily. He has a really good first pass too. He's not physical at all though.

If Google Maps is right, he played Minor Hockey only an hour away from you (Drummondville) for 5-years.

Not many teams have 10 NHL calibre defenseman... when you're missing four regular NHL defenseman obviously your defense will look weak. He's Hamilton's best defenseman so there is no reason why he wouldn't be called up.
