I don't like this. Schenn just got comfortable with Gardiner. Now they're taking him out..

Cody Franson is a good player. I watched him quite a bit last year and I liked what I saw. Now, give the guy this, he did play with Weber but this is what I don't understand. Weber seemed to take the guy low and to the net where he had the strength to do that and Franson played a little outside. He played great in that system. Here, we ask him to take the forward crashing the net, which he never did before and have a guy like Komisarek trying to block shots and leaving him with no help. Just me, I don't think Wilson uses him well and to be honest he doesn't use many d-men well here. I don't care what some posters say here, we have some really good defencemen on this team that would be focal points on other teams but in Toronto we fail to utilize them. How this team gives up so many chances is by positioning and responsibilities. There is nothing wrong with Franson, when you have a coaching staff to start the season decide to play their own first round pic that played his tail off for you for the last couple of seasons only ten minutes a game, you are asking your vet d-man in Phaneuf to already be eating close to 30 minutes a game, the problem is the coaching.

Franson is a hell of player with great wheels for a big man. When he leaves here he will be a fixture on someones blue line and look great and many of you will wonder how come he could never do that here.

HF value for Franson pre-Leafs was a 1st or a really good prospect. Once a Leaf it is down to a 3rd. Post Leaf it will rise but never get back to his "original" value.

Gardiner needs some time off, he looks tired.

It seems the word around Montreal is that the Habs offered Gomez and a 2nd up for either Franson or Komisarek...possible salary dump both ways if it includes Komisarek. Lombardi's name was also mentioned. Who knows if it is true so we will wait and see.

Then something must have been lost in translation or they are just plain crazy in Montreal.

The Leafs don't have the cap, they only have something like 800k?

Explain what this does for the team? Especially getting rid of a veteran d man and our fastest skater.

They moved him to the left side in order to make sure that he didn't have to sit games, to make sure he was a regular. Gardiner's emergence bumps him out. He was certainly in the Leafs plans.

The rumour out of Mtl is that it is Gomez and a 2nd for Franson or possibly Komisarek, or Gomez and a 2nd for Komisarek and Lombardi....Lombardi being from the city and speaking French which would be the selling point. the Habs are hurting dearly on the backend and will ice a defence corps tonight with only Georges playing more than 100 NHL games. Spacek is gone again with an upper body, Gill is still sick with something, markov and Campoli are out indefinitely so they need another D and their top call-up Nash is also injured. Personally, I don't see a trade happening between the two clubs but Gauthier has been taken before so who knows. Don't shoot the messenger guys!

Personally I don't see it happening between two old arch rivals.

If Kadri was ready, there would be a much less dramatic move made then moving Komisarek and Lombardi for the worst contract in the league.. Seriously..

We can't send Komisarek to the Marlies.

There are clearly spots open for Kadri, he's just not playing to the expected calibre he needs to be at in order to make the team. Franson is in for our next game, is he not? Why would we make a move when we still have unknowns on our blueline in Gardiner and how he is going to respond conditioning wise? He's already looked tired, which why Franson is getting another look. It doesn't make sense from the standpoint of management.

The idea that we need to move a defensive asset based on the points you have provided is a cheap laugh, but isn't worth much more than that.

Hopefully it's Glen Slater offering us Chris Kreider and a 2nd for Cody.

Doubt it. If anything it would be a straight swap 1 for 1.

The 2nd round pick makes me think it's either a project forward or a dump of some kind.

Because the Leafs are mis managed and coached thats why hes not playing. The Leafs organization has been treading water now for how many years? 8????

I don't think anyone over the age of 30 will see Stanley parade in his lifetime in this city
