Lombardi missed an entire year and I'm sure he's still not completely up to speed yet. Gomez is know as a two-way player but he's gonna put up what, 25 points this year? I'd put Lombardi at about the same level and if he ever regains form, he's more valuable. Cap hit aside.

I wouldn't say it's ludicrous at all.

Debatable, sure. But definitely not ludicrous.

They're both 40-50 point 3rd line centers that are both around the 50% mark for face offs.

Both are classified as undersized and speedy.

Again.. definitley not a ludicrous comparison.

But if you were to factor in cap hits... well, NOW it's a ludicrous comparison.

lol, Gomez sucks... even more than Komisarek who actually hasn't been that bad this season.

Hell no, from Leafs perspective. Lombardi is better than him or just as good as him, makes less and we can bury him in the minors.

Gomez hasnt really lost his speed, so i can see him working out with kessel. He likes to carry the puck, we need a centre that can take some of the load off of kessel. Does gomez penalty kill for montreal?

it doesn't always look good on a GM who buries his own signings in the Minors. this basically would work out to a 500K cap savings for TO (if all players remain in NHL) and opens a roster spot for Franson. If all Burke wanted to do was bury that amount of cap space in the minors and his targets for that were those two players, it would save face for him to trade them and bury Gomez. And at the same time, it saves 4.5M for them 3 years from now when the only player still under contract is Komisarek.

Again that scenario is only a theory as to why it could be possible....but I don't think it would ever happen

Hasn't Gomez played with Camm? If that's the case and he still can't put up points I doubt he'd do much with Kessel. Gomez is AWFUL now.

not really. It's usually with Gionta and Moen.

The Leafs are not alone in that regard.

Seriously no team is going to trade for Gomez...i dont care what cap dumps we have to take back its not going to happen.

Gomer's going to be playing in the AHL next season.

Komisarek can't be buried and Lombardi is not his signing but Gomez doesn't have a NMC so yeah, he could be buried and that could be Burke's thinking as well.

If Burke wants to do that, sure, I would be fine with the trade as long as he is getting buried (I would still want something more than just Gomez though).

I agree habs need to offer more maybe this would be enough for the trouble of taking on Gomez's terrible contract.
Gomez + Price for Komisarek + Lombardi + Gustavason

**** that.

Komisarek has more goals and pts than Gomez and is plaing like a stud. Lombardi is great too.

We'll leave them to have the most expensive 4th line in the league, thanks.

Let's not be ridiculous. They wouldn't offer Price to get rid of a bad contract to take on 2 bad contracts, one of which can't be buried.

I would be happy with a 1st rounder or a good prospect.

Yes, he's paid way too much, but he's still talented. However, I see Gomez finding his game again in a smaller market. He's gotta get out of the fishbowl

Burke wouldn't go higher than 6+ for Richards, why the hell does anyone remotely think he'd take on Gomez's contract at 7+?

I can't argue with that. It's the only scenario I can see as a reason for that type of deal. Because at Montreal's end of it, if just dumping Gomez was what was wanted, then he can be sent down.

Thanks though. It's nice having a fan of the hated maple leafs to talk to that doesn't look at these eklund style rumors as a personal attack on their grandmother

How about this? Though not sure if I'd want the Gomez contract for that.
Gomez + Budaj + 2nd for Komisarek + Gustavson

this deal isn't unrealistic at all. But Montreal really should hold onto their picks...have you seen the prospect pool...I mean puddle lately.

This could make sense. Gomez has been replace by DD and Eller.
