I expect Carolina to start selling soon. They already got rid of Tomas Kaberle and have five impending UFAs that will all likely be moved at some point. Those names include:
Tuomo Ruutu
Alexei Ponikarovsky
Jaroslav Spacek
Bryan Allen
Tim Gleason
I'd be surprised if Ruutu or Gleason re-signed with Carolina. Rutherford could surely garner a very good return in moving those two players. I've been clamoring for Ruutu since last year. He's been one of Carolina's better players this season and has 14 goals on the season and will surely surpass the 19 goals he netted last season.
Ruutu would be perfect IMO. He can score and plays physical. He plays like Penner but finishes his chances and checks.
This^ If DL wants to replace Penner with someone Ruutu would be my top choice. The only problem is doesn't he have a concussion history? I vaguely recall him having a concussion or two (or was it a recurring knee injury?) while he was in Chicago and missing large chunks of time.

Pierre LeBrun thinks the Kings may be interested in revisiting trade talks with the Oilers concerning Ales Hemsky:
Quote:
The Kings had interest in Hemsky last season before settling for Dustin Penner in a deadline day trade with Edmonton. If the Darryl Sutter renaissance is successful in L.A. and the Kings are in a playoff spot come February, it wouldn’t surprise me if they came sniffing around on Hemsky again. They need an upgrade on the wing in L.A. -- whether or not the Kings fix that this season or next summer is what remains to be seen.
Meh, he's just pulling names out of a hat. The price would have to be stellar for us to consider that in my opinion. He is a good player but he is injured constantly (38 games lost to injuries or ailments this year alone). It is borderline pathetic. Given our rocky relationship as it is, I don't see it being a possibility. I wanted him more than Penner last year, but was fine, at the time, with what occurred. Hemsky's price tag is high contract wise and his worth is significantly less to the other 29 teams in the league.

Given how DL takes chances with injury prone players, sadly I see this as a real possibility. It's how we currently have 2 of our top 6 wingers (Williams/Gagne).
With that said, Just say no to Hemsky. I would much rather overpay for a stud who plays in the majority games each year.
From a recent radio interview, it sounds like Lombardi and Tambellini have patched things up and Lombardi apologized to him for his comments.
None the less....even if they made up...
They gave us Penner (which has been a bust)
They tried to give us Brule injured AND they gave us Fraser injured and lied about both
I wouldn't trust em to give us fair return on a guy like Hemsky at all. And we already have a reputation as being a soft ass team, that would just add to it.

He must be incredibly injury prone considering Edmonton's only played 35 games this year.
