Rebranding the QMJHL

Let's be cereal guys. The QMJHL, isn't known for strong, classic logos. It has only 4 or 5 decent identities, and I think that that's too bad. Beginning with league marks, I plan to go through the entire QMJHL and start fresh. I plan a few team renamings, but mostly I'll either significantly update current marks or start completely from scratch.

My first piece is the league logo, which is easily the strongest of the 3 CHL leagues, but doesn't account for the burgeoning English presence in the league. In my rebrand, Quebecois teams will wear on their jerseys the LHJMQ version, while the Maritime or American teams will wear the QMJHL version. The mark itself has been changed to a more modern navy blue, and made significantly more sharp. I couldn't justify to myself scrapping the skate and format of the current logo, so the basis of it stays the same.

The next logos will be the draft and playoff logos. Then I'll tackle the teams in an order based on requests.

The league's primary logo remains the French one (the English one only appearing on jerseys), and that's represented in the draft logo. I chose to put together the English version to demonstrate the primary branding. Blue colours represent the colours of Quebec and the ocean for the Atlantic Provinces. The bottom of the shield would be reserved for sponsors.

That's nice too, honestly I would copyright your work if I were you, cause that's some really good work, and I love the colors, it looks really sharp.

If you're going to rebrand the Q I think you'll have to consider a name change to reflect the fact that the Maritimes represents 1/3 of the league now. This is actually a pretty good compromise.

retains the QMJHL acronym, makes sense - why not? OHL + WHL get along fine without the "major" label. We all know it's major junior.

Retains the QMJHL initialism (not acronym!), but does it retain the LHJMQ?

Ligue de Hockey Junior du les Maritimes et Québec?

Is that correct French?

He's a first look at my mark for the Saint John Sea Dogs. Jerseys and full applications will come when I get home.

Basically my mission with this was to update the logo and colour scheme without sacrificing the fairly cartoonish theme of the current mark. It is still a minor league team after all.

The colour scheme is Black, Silver, and Teal. I thought that the teal was more representative of the sea than deep, rich blue (the current main colour). The set will be inspired heavily by the San Jose Sharks.

I agree. It looks like the sea dog slipped on the ice.

Don't be afraid to be specific about stuff you don't like it. After you spend a lot of time working on something it becomes to hard to be able to see the problems with it.

I think it would look a lot nicer if you rotated it a bit, making the sea dog more upright.

The Bay of Fundy is not really teal in colour. The blue, I think, works better as the primary colour. I do like the seal graphic but it looks as if it is defending itself as opposed to attacking or being the aggressor. If you could keep the current colours or use blue and white with the seal swimming outwards and away, I think you may be on to something. Also, they use the red eye on the seal alot in the video adaptation of the logo during intros, promos, replays and the like on the score clock.

It's hard to see something change when you are used to the way it is. I am grateful that somebody has tried to make a new look as we haven't had one in seven years. The organization has put off even designing a third jersey for so long we have giving up hope.

I like the furthest right rotation. I also like the logo better with the existing colour scheme (the lower one to be precise); it looks more... What's the word I'm looking for? Intense would work.

Like the new Jets logo, this has grown on me.

This rotated as the 3rd rotation in the list you gave. These colours are immensely better + more representative of the region. The water of the Bay is more of a grey-blue, so teal is just off the mark given the symbolism you were striving for.

Wondering if there's some subtleties you can do to include an S and a J somehow...not necessary tho. dunno how it'd be done. might just look like a straw-grasp like san jose's supposed SJ on the shark

I took the liberty of rotating this one myself. It's actually pretty awesome now. Well done!

If you don't like the effects, they're there so my logos aren't so easily stolen.

That's the best Sea Dogs one so far.

You should have a try at the Wildcats one.

Next up is one of these 5 teams. PM me your vote.

Rouyn-Noranda
Rimouski
Quebec
Gatineau
Chicoutimi

If you could, please include an idea for a new name for a Halifax team and/or a PEI team, both of which I want to rename.

Without a doubt. A world better than what they have now.
