I think in less than normal weather conditions is ok to be cautious and be 5-10 km under the speed limit, but when ppl are over cautious/scared and drive 20+ km slower it causes traffic to be at a stand still.
I have no issues with doing only 80km/h on Hwy2 in bad conditions, however to help others out that want to still do 110 or 120 I stay in the far right lane and put up with anyone going slower than me and then move into the middle lane when safe to do so rather than when there is a small opening and the guy coming up on your ass is clearly going faster than you.
I am heading to tenerife for 10 days--So I am hoping for good weather while there
It's always nice there. They call it permanent spring for a reason. Going to Los Cristianos right? All English all the time. Go up to the north of the island for a trip if you want to experience anything even remotely Spanish. The wife has relatives there so we have visited quite often. Have fun, I'm jealous.
I took 21 on monday after work and between Fort Sask and the Henday it didn't get above 50km/h nor should it have, what a nightmare. I can only hope today won't be as bad, but it looks like it will be.
Haha, ya, 21 was slow as balls on Monday... But now I'm on Whitecourt Mountain. Oh man, blazing a trail uphill through 3 feet of snow is fun. Can't really let my speed drop below 60 or I risk losing my momentum. I already did a backwards slide yesterday and had to drive all the way to the bottom before I could turn around and go back up. Woooo winter driving, so much fun
Just as a driving related point what is it about people that don't seem to comprehend that just because they can go in a straight line at a decent speed it doesn't logically follow that you can stop and turn exactly as you'd espect in these conditions?
These aren't even anything close to what I would call treacherous conditions. People are making elemental driving mistakes negotiating stops and turns. I saw a couple vehicles approach a turn with so much speed they went off roading. Any pedestrians standing there would be killed.
Also no apparent understanding out there that any bridge deck is going to be worse and withunpredictable conditions. In a river city how do people not comprehend this basic fact?
I don't mind winter driving at all. I do mind that many accidents are starting to block up the roadways.
The first snows are always the worst because people completely forget how to drive in inclement conditions.
I shovelled everything....and and hour and a half later it looks like it did before almost.
On a semi related winter note....I am looking for 24/7 parking until the end of march as close as possible to 97th street and 83rd ave. Must have plug in, doesn't have to be undercover or anything. There is only parking on one side of my street, and it's unfortunately the opposite side of my house which means I can't plug my car in right now. There is lots of parking listed on kijiji but it's all close to the university or downtown, I was hoping for something closer.
Can just be an extra spot in someones driveway or something....willing to pay up to around $70 per month. PM me.
take transit, seriously. even though the roads suck, the transit drivers are usually reliable to not crash, and the lrt usually never de-rails so you should be okay.
I used to have to take that route every morning to Nisku. I'm convinced it's the worst intersection in the Edmonton area. Used to be, at least. Might not so bad since they expanded it, but I haven't had to take it in a long time.
This weather is truly AMAZING. +6 today.... +6 in LATE December.
The last year I can remember a winter this mild up until this point was in 1997 when we actually did have a green Christmas with nary a flake of snow on the ground.
If it stays warm all day today we'll be pretty close by tomorrow morning as well. Truly unbelievable... I just hope we don't pay for it in January and February. So much for being a frozen tundra for 6 months of the year.....
yea this winter is nice. I remember there being 3 foot mini mountains of snow in my bankyard that my dogs would climb on, but this year, it's like 2 inches at most.
