2 years ago we hit a record, it was the most snow in one day since the 1970's.

Either way there's been a few times where they could've definitely shut stuff down but they just don't. Almost anywhere else in the world would be a snow day, not Edmonton!

The only way school will shut down is if the school is physically unable to host classes (no power, heat, water main breaks, ect). The may shut down the buses, but the schools remain open. As parents you have the choice to not send your kids on days like this, but as teachers like myself we are contractually obligated to go even on days like this.

The weather is what we thought it was. It's what we thought it was!!. We saw it all winter — who the hell looks at the third week of the spring like it's ********? ********! We watched it in the third week — everybody got lazy for three weeks— the weather is what we thought it was! That's why we closed down the Henday. Now if you want to crown winter, then crown it's ass! But it's what we thought they it was! And we let' it off the hook!

Snowday needs to be revisited bigtime. I would imagine with the advent of snowtires, traction, abs, 4 X 4 it all just means more people using highways thinking they are invincible. Fact of the matter is in a collision like this you're not safe unless you're staying at home watching this on the news. ANY technology doesn't save you from a collision like this. If you stop in time somebody behind you doesn't and you get thrown into the fray. Theres few answers to this kind of hazard and it can be there around any bend or the crest of any hill.
Where I work we don't really have the luxury of a snowday. Place has to stay running.

The weather channel called for 10cm throughout the day. So I went to work this morning.

By noon there's 25cm on the ground already. How do you miss that?

If half the city and highway drivers knew it was going to be that bad they'd probably have stayed home. I know I would.

Can't miss work every time they call for 10cm. But 30cm in a few hours is different.

Forecasters failed us

That cloud has just stayed situated over the region all day. Like I said earlier, it looks like the Big Red Dot on Jupiter on satellite radar.

You don't shut the schools down ever. Some dumbass will make their kid go and leave them stranded. Cancel class sure but the school needs to be open

I shudder to think what happens here when we get a perfect storm blizzard. Weather is getting more and more extreme. I don't know if it takes an event where a 100K people are hopelessly stranded to get the message. Driving on highways today for any reason other than emergency is foolish.

The weather itself is nothing new to us there's a ton of snow but we've seen more in the past and its really not that cold. the more surprising thing is the time of year it's march 21st I was expecting spring around now

I expect it to be kind of chilly and to have some snow at this time of year but this is just insanity. I've been shoveling for an elderly lady in my neighborhood for four years now and I never had to shovel anything like this in March over previous three winters.

March is one of the snowiest months in Edmonton...seriously
ever heard of "in like a lamb, out like a lion?"
this definitely rings true this year...
