I did like seeing Kovalchuk putting a hard hit on Myers. Didn't take a stupid penalty going after him, just took his number after he hit Zubrus, and paid him back in kind. I like seeing that from Kovy, and I wish he would hit like that more often.
+1
And good for them all to make it a W for our Daniusaurus Rex. Congrats on 1000th game once again, Zubie
Very nice to score 5 goals, all of which were pretty......I think I'm in love with Fayne
Defense was meh positionally but otherwise we looked pretty solid, vintage Marty tonight
For those that may have thought Kovy didn't look great, or looked slow, c'man the guy came off a groin pull......as somebody who played through a groin pull after being recommend not to, you may see that for another game or two from Kovalchuk......no matter how much better it feels, it is still tighter than it was before the pull and it's going to take some time to loosen up and especially with a game that requires so much stride, you have to ease back into it not full thresh like Kovy is capable of
such a great win. not every game is a shutout and goals go both ways, but im very happy with this one.
and apologies to any sabres fans reading my comments earlier tonight..........but dont worry your welfare cheque for the month is coming soon. dont spend it all at the anchor in one night
Yeah, there's controlled domination and then there's that. It would hold more water if they weren't constantly botching coming out of the zone and continually getting gapped like Boudreau was coaching them 3-4 years ago.
Alot of this stuff is correctable and the players aren't doing it.
The good thing is that it's correctable. They need to stop running in the defensive zone, and stop clustering to the puck leaving guys open in the slot. Have they forgotten everything Lemaire taught them?
Teams with speed burn the defenders to the outside all the time, it's embarrassing.
Sykora is an awesome pickup. He is extremely smart with the puck.
He was just a perfect fit for us. He's lost a couple steps and is damn soft, but playing with Elias and Zubrus hides that and allows him to make plays and rip shots off the faceoff.

Guy also knows how to create chances.
He's by far our best forward in relative CORSI too.
It's hilarious that Clarkson has 6 goals and 1 assist on the season now. I expect him to have more goals than assists because he rarely passes, but that's a very comical ratio.

Somebody has to score
I'm just glad we're not scoring at a historically bad rate again this year. Now, if we could just get our GA under control...

I was surprised at how many of the goals were pretty. Parise's was in close and kind of cheap, but it was a great play by Henrique. Then we had snipe jobs by Kovy, Fayne, and Patty, and Clarkson was great with his breakaway goal. Very well executed offence from us tonight.
If he can keep from fading hard, he's going to be a really cheap 15 goals.
No reason to expect Sykora to fade, at least not physically.
He's a veteran. With age comes wisdom. As in: how to preserve and pace yourself over a long marathon season. Which is why, for example, Kovy doesn't throw the body around more (in November). He will in March and beyond.
Counter-intuitively, it is kiddies who typically hit a wall.

Just my observation, of course.
but man was that a great force of weight on myers by him,,,,,i expected a peel off.

I'm skeptical about him reaching 15 goals. He has 3 goals on the year and they've all come off that faceoff play. I'm not the slightest bit upset with his game, but if he wants to increase his goal totals, he has to find another way to score.
