No divisions and less games in the regular season, say 60-70.

3 conference structure? Wouldn't it be a 4 conference structure? Personally, I'm okay with anything the NHL does, all options have their pro's and con's.

There was someone talking about it on the other boards, so I put it in

As long as I see less Leafer and Hab fans de-spoiling our barn, I'm good.

For the Sens any realignment that brings Montreal and Toronto less often to Ottawa would be considered a loss. Those gates are almost guaranteed sellouts because of their large fan base in the broad local area.

should just be east and western conference no divisions, to sort out how many times we play each team, whichever 5 teams are closest geographically we play them 8 times, other teams in the east 4 or less, and any western conference team 2 or less.

bring detroit back to the eastern conference.

Not a fan of uneven divisions. Keep it the way it is. Each has it's flaws, and it would just be making a change just for the sake of making a change.

Winnipeg --> Northwest
Colorado --> Pacific
Dallas --> Central
Columbus --> Southeast

Problem solved

Just drop the top-3 seeding for division winners and I'm happy.

No reason to change it IMO.

This works fine. Detroit won't like it but there won't be an option that will please everyone.

No divisions...2 conferences...same playoff format.

Every teams plays every team atleast 1 home and away.

so:
2x15=30
+
4x14=56

86 games played. It's the most fair way with every team getting a home and away against out of conference teams, and 2 h and a against inner conference teams. They used to have 84gp so 86 shouldn't be an issue

6 division two conference system until NHL expands to 32 teams, then change it up to 4 division two conference system with divisional playoffs.

Keep it at 6 divisions, obviously tweak the conferences so that Winnipeg will be in the West and one of Columbus or Detroit will be in the East.

The more I look at the possibilities, the more I want the NHL to bust out 4 conferences or divisions, whatever you want to call it, and bust out 1 vs 4, 2 vs 3 in each division, will create new rivalries and establish old ones, because everyone knows rivalries develop in the playoffs.

I agree completely. Also since 7 (number of division rivals) is not divisible by 24 (number of games left after a home and home against everyone) and you will have to play half the teams within your division an extra game (sub-division); imagine if the first round was the top 2 teams in each sub-division, and we were guaranteed to play Toronto, Buffalo, or Montreal

I don't like divisional playoffs. It might be good for rivalries but it gets boring because you see the same teams every year. Keep conference-based playoffs.

rivalry games are so much more exciting so. I really could care less if we ever played Tampa in the playoffs again

I agree with this. Playing different teams in the playoffs (outside your own division) occasionnally develops new rivalries, and releives the monotony of playing Buffalo, Toronto, etc every year. I say keep the conference playoff setup.

I don't have strong feelings either way, but this looks good to me.
