Right now its just an investigation. So far alot of the comments being made at ESPN think the person claimed to be molested by Fine was molested by him up till he was 27.

Ill read more into the article and see what happens overtime.

Just spoke with Jim Boeheim for a while. Will post in a bit. He vehemently denies the ESPN story. Will post soon.

This looks shady to me.

#1 Why wait 30 years?
#2 Both accusers look like heroin addicts.
#3 Davis said he was molested for 16 years from age 11-27. REALLY? Still let yourself be molested into your 20s? REALLY?
and #4 Convenient this games out at the same time as Penn St. thing.

We could say #3 for the Penn State victims as well, sort of. They could have brought it up years ago if they wanted. They could have found ways. Maybe both schools did some paying off?

I heard about this on the radio the other day.

I'm sure there might be some truth to it but much of the story seems so shady. Especially the continued length of supposed molestation to the same person.

That was one epic blast by Boeheim too

This story is a little crazy.

Kid goes to the police, Syracuse, and ESPN in 2003 and all three investigate and find nothing. All his witnesses deny that this ever happened.

Penn State scandal hits and the accuser contacts this Schwartz guy (he probably contacted them) and now they're running with the story based on the fact that:

His meth-head looking brother now says he was molested too (the older brother let him hang out with Bernie Fine WHILE being molested by Bernie Fine??? That doesn't make sense) even after denying it when it was first investigated.

AND, here's the clincher:

The accusers girlfriend claims that Bernie Fine used to keep the blinds shut in his house and their seemed to be "secrets in the house." Oy vey, ESPN thought this was worth ruining a guy's career for?

Not saying Fine didn't do it, but my god, you should need a little more than that to go forward with a story unless you're TMZ or Deadspin.

Oh, Deadspin was asked and said they wouldn't have gone forward with the story because of how shady it is.

It seems like ESPN has backed off the story a bit since it broke. Can't wait to read what the ESPN ombudsman has to say about this.

ESPN dropped the ball in their Penn State coverage. They were being scooped by news outlets such as the NY Times and CNN. The "Worldwide Leader" finally upped the ante in their coverage when Paterno was fired.

I truly believe that ESPN decided to go with the Syracuse allegations solely because of their shoddy coverage of the Penn State scandal. They wanted to be at the forefront of the next college sex abuse ordeal no matter how unreliable their sources were. Even Scott Van Pelt admitted that there were some serious reservations within the network about whether to proceed with the story.

One thing that the Post Standard mentioned and that ESPN failed to report is that Bobby Davis decided to cut off relations with Bernie Fine around 2001-2002 after Fine got angry with him because Davis couldn't pay off a debt to Fine. So that's when Davis decides enough is enough, and not the 16 years of alleged sex abuse? ESPN's journalistic integrity is on par with the National Enquirer. It speaks volumes that not even Deadspin would run with that story.

It has been quiet on both fronts, which is interesting. I wonder if the Penn State thing is over?

It was interesting timing for this to leak AND the guy to speak. We've been over it all in the PSU thread(s) on why a dude would shutup for 16 years. Guess ya never know...

Onondaga County District Attorney William Fitzpatrick says Syracuse police are resisting his office's attempts to obtain records in the investigation of Syracuse University assistant basketball coach Bernie Fine.

Fitzpatrick said he had to get a court subpoena Monday ordering police to turn over records. But he said that when the subpoena was served to the deputy chief, it was greeted with an obscenity.

"I've never seen this happen in my history with the DA's office," Fitzpatrick told the Syracuse Post-Standard of the refusal to share records.

Sounds like there should be a house cleaning. Public record is public record and you have to produce it. (In this case, it's actually a DA getting information to build his case and some of it may be sensitive and not able to be released yet, but same general principle applies.)

Do pedophiles typically keep molesting a kid once they become an adult? I thought the whole thing was that they liked children - not adults. Just another thing that seems odd.

My big concern is, again, for the victims. If this turns out to be false, what does this tell victims of sexual abuse/violence? That its not okay to come out and hide the pain you have?

Everyone has to face reality at some point no matter how much it hurts. What you tell the real victims here that you should still go forward and never give up the fight despite those who are an embarrassment(the fake victims) top the real victims trying to take advantage of the system in orger to make a quick buck.

At the end of the day, a real victim is someone who strives to no longer be the victim no matter what it takes.

Is there any way to ever know if it's false? Unless they come out and admit it, it's just going to end up going nowhere.

They may be telling the truth, but their stories are just so unbelievable. They need another victim (unrelated to any of these three) to come out.

You have other ballboys who were with Davis at the time saying it's absurd, coaches that roomed with Fine on the road trips where he was allegedly abusing this kid saying it never happened - I don't know, it feels like they're lying. Maybe not though.

This is an odd story. The DA is going after the cops......aren't they on the same ******* team?

http://aol.sportingnews.com/ncaa-bas...-investigation

The Onondaga County district attorney and Syracuse city police chief have taken their fight to the streets.

District attorney William Fitzpatrick on Wednesday accused police chief Frank Fowler of mishandling the initial Bernie Fine investigation in 2002 and attempting to sabotage the current investigation into molestation allegations against the Syracuse assistant coach, according to the Syracuse Post Standard.

Fitzpatrick went so far as to threaten felony charges against Fowler and deputy police chief Sean Broton for leaking witness affidavits to the media and all but called for them to be fired.

"This should frighten every person in the city of Syracuse," Fitzpatrick said Wednesday at a press conference. "You do not have a police chief. You have a fiefdom.

This is turning into one big joke....regardless if it's true or not, the people running the show are clueless.
