General Manager Steve Tambellini announced today the Edmonton Oilers have recalled defencemen Colten Teubert and Taylor Chorney from the Oklahoma City Barons of the American Hockey League.
Teubert, 21, has played in 13 games with the Barons this season, recording two goals and three assists.
The 6'4", 200-pound White Rock, BC native was recalled last month by Edmonton and appeared in two games with the club recording his first NHL point, an assist on November 5 at Phoenix.
Chorney, 24, will be playing his first game this season with the Oilers. The 6’0”, 190-pound Thunder Bay, ON native has one assist in four games with the Barons this season.
In 58 career NHL games Chorney has one goal and six assists.
Edmonton Oilers hockey is presented in part by the Rexall Family of Pharmacies, Molson Canadian, ATB Financial, TELUS, Cenovus Energy and Ford.
No real surprise here...
One thing I'm wondering is that I remember (correct me if I wrong), that once a player clears regular waivers to be assigned to the AHL in a season. That player is allowed to be sent back down provided that he does not play more than ten games or be on the teams NHL roster for more than 30 days.
With Chorney being claimed off waivers from STL, he didn't clear waivers. What I wondering is if Chorney will have to be placed on waivers to be sent back down, once players are back from injuries? Because it looks like we was not put on re-entry waivers...
I would have rather had Plante over Chorney. Plante at least has something still to prove.
Hogwash, Chorney is a PMD something that we need badly. He is also young enough that be could still make a name for himself as an NHL defenseman like his fellow UND teammate Brian Lee has done in Ottawa. Plante while he has something to prove has slipped behind Teubert on the depth chart and we don't need two physical D added to Peckham and possibly Sutton, we need a guy that can move the puck out of his zone and that is what Chorney was drafted for, may as well see if he's finally ready to do it.
We know what Chorney is. I'm still not convinced that Plante is a bust, or a for sure nhler either. I just think he needs to be given a fair amount of time up here to really make a determination. You don't give up on a guy like him yet. The team is coming back down to earth (where they belong) & whether it's Plante of Chorney, the Oil will still be sucking hind end come April.

I'll help you out then, Plante is an epic bust. He's an average AHL defenseman.
Seems like the only guys who could really handle the call at this point, I hope Tuebert has a solid showing, I like his game last time.
Hopefully Chorney's simplified and focused his game, so he can be more effective.
All this said, if Potter or Sutton are out for any significant length of time, probably time to get someone.

I would say that its the other way around.. We know what Plante is but lets see what a Chorney who has been bounced around a bit brings to the table.

Have you seen Plante play? With hands and hockey IQ like that, he makes Peckham look like Lidstrom. I hope the best for the guy, but he is NOT and NHL quality defenseman and doesn't have the tools to ever be anything more than a #7 who sticks around to add some toughness
