Foligno has been great for us. He seems to really be coming into his own this season.

If he can do the weather, he can play center.

Looked in his own tonight handling the puck. Pretty impressive.

In other news....

Toronto fans and Toronto sports media Bobby Ryan trade talk is embarrassing.

Would you move a Schenn or a Kadri for Bobby Ryan?

I would say two schenns and two kadris for Ryan....but then I'm in a bad pickle...because I have two schenns and two kadris.

While he did handle the puck well in the early part of the game, he wasn't distributing the puck well at all. It is my biggest concern with Nick, he just doesn't think the game well and tries to do too much as a solo act. With Alfie and Michalek as his wingers all he has to do is make short accurate passes and then support them, get in position for rebounds and work the boards.

He isn't Spezza, why try to emulate him.

But to be fair it was only his second game at center, so he needs time to adjust.

What leads you to believe the cap will grow next year?

A new CBA needs to be signed prior to next season, I would think the cap for 2012-13 is quite unpredictable at this point in time.

They get so excited anytime a high rated player is rumoured to be shopped.

Media "Phil Kessel is being shopped around."
Laffs fan 1 "OMG KADRI + for this guy!"
Laffs fan 2 "OMG KESSEL PLAYING WITH KESSEL WOULD BE BOMB!"
Laffs fan 3 "THE CUP IS AS GOOD AS OURS!!!"
Laffs fan 4 "Derrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr"

It's formulaic with Leafs fans...

If the player on the opposing team's trading block is a superstar:
"Leafs offer Kadri + 2nd" or "Hmm... I'd do Schenn straight-up"

If the player on the trading block is a valuable player with very high upside:
"I hate to do it, but we'll give you Gunnarson... you might have to add, though"

If the player is a solid player who can plug a hole:
"We'll give you Komisarek, and we're doing you a favor, trust us.; Komi is DUE!"

The talk on this board isn't much better. Some people are offering chump change.

Agreed.

There are about 10x as many Leafs fans as Sens fans though, so by sheer numbers, the terrible Leafs offers are prevalent, in almost epidemic numbers at times.

Ratio wise our fanbase is just as bad though

At any rate, Lee + a 5th for Ryan seems fair, amidoingitrite?

Yes, but those are shot down far, far more I find. I also see guys frequently overrating what it would take to return a guy, but rarely will I see Leafs fans do that. Thing is, there are way more Leafs fans out there so not only does that give them more exposure, but I also think your average Leafs fan on here is less die-hard and knowledgeable than your average Sens fan on here. Now, theres probably more intelligent Leaf fans on here too but I think while the number of fans can grow more or less infinitely, the number of intelligent fans grows far, far slower than that simply because they're surrounded by SO many people who just don't know what in the hell they're talking about.

Yeah, all this.

Also, I think media bias has a lot to do with some of the misinformation Leafs fans tend to have. Not that the media are inherently pro-leafs, though... it's just that networks recognize that Leafs fans are the largest of all the fanbases, and promote accordingly, which results in a lot of false positivity towards the Maple Leafs.

Sometimes I'll hear an analyst say something completely over the top because they're trying to attract the HUGE Leafs demographic, and I feel bad for the casual Leafs fans, like "Oh god, now they're going to believe this garbage Kypreos is spewing", etc, etc... Sucks that Leafs fans are toyed with as much as they are. The hardcore Leafs fans can sometimes see through it, but you're right: the casual fanbase that takes it as gospel are the ones that usually influence the group as a whole.

Also: I miss "Pink Freud", I think that was probably my favorite avatar.

To be fair to Leafs fans, Burke has been pulling off miracles lately, like the Kaberle, Beauchemin, Phaneuf trades, so maybe it gives them hope that they'll get Ryan in a similar fashion.

you'd think with a guy like Bobby Ryan being on the brink of being traded that the senators would be on that like a fat kid on chocolate considering his skill and age... guy would be unreal with Spezza.

Bobby Ryan ANA 23 7 4 11 -6 $5,100,000
Colin Greening OTT 24 6 5 11 -7 $850,000
Nick Foligno OTT 24 7 7 14 -5 $1,200,000

Now before you jump all over me showing Ryan's 3 50 point seasons yadda yadda yadda. i am just using these numbers to show that BM may be more interested in seeing what he can get out of the young players we have rather than paying a price that may be too steep. We are on the fence right now. a 5 game skid could put us in a hole we wont be able to climb out of. I dont want to see some valuable pieces lost. Don't get me wrong. i would be happy if we got Ryan. I just prefer to be cautious.

We should try and acquire Chris Stewart from St Louis. He has struggled so far this season so it wouldn't cost too much and we could use another top six power forward.

St.Louis paid a very heavy price for him, because they badly need 1st line talents. Their prospects keep turning into 2nd liners and then plateau. They aren't going to give him up and certainly not for cheap.

Remember there is a new cba for next year so the percentage the players get could change, there is no way to predict next years cap till its signed

Well since you have a grasp of basic economics, maybe you should read the Forbes report http://www.forbes.com/sites/mikeozan...ness-of-hockey.

It just might provide you a deeper appreciation for the business side of an economic model that isn't viable.

With 18 teams losing money, before interest charges or depreciation are factored in, it is pretty obvious the growth in revenue is not keeping pace with the growth in expense.

As the author of this article suggests, the NHL will most definitely be looking to reduce the percentage of revenue, currently 57%, used to set the salary cap. This by definition will cause the cap to be reduced.

Now that Boudreau has replaced Carlyle as the Ducks coach, any Ryan trade will be put on hold for awhile is my bet.
