Doug before the trading deadline

I have this funny feeling the Great Wizard has realized his mistake in letting Wellwood go, and will trade for him before the deadline. His current stats are very good at this point in the season, 6g 7a 14min ATOI. A stretch run with Wellwood, centering either line 3/4 makes this team dangerous. He knows this team and the system.Wellwood played great UNTIL the Vancouver series and should have been retained as a 3/4th liner, imo. Would DW give up a pick and would Sharks fans be ok with that?? Maybe a 7th?

Zeus/Welly/McGinn
Winchester/Dejard/Mitchell

Flame away

I sincerely doubt it. Pretty sure DW let go of Wellwood without a second glance. And moreover, why would Winnipeg let him go? It's not like he's over in the KHL again--he's one of the Jets' best players. They'd ask for overpayment from us, which is stupid. As much as I like Welly, he's not worth what Winnipeg would demand.

No ones getting him for a 7th. DW wont trade for him, he let him walk, and he will stand by that. He's not giving assets up for something he could have signed for free.

Except for shedding some goalie weight, I don't see any trades along the deadline unless its required for some unfortunate reason.

On that note, with DW at the helm it'll be a cold day in hell before he brings back a former Shark. Once he dumps someone, its like he's sure to burn the bridge behind them.

No ones giving you a pretzel. It'd be White + Large Pretzel for Small Pretzel

at the deadline we'll need a speedy winger that's outstanding on the PK and can put up 30-35 points a year. This is not wellwood.

The only pretzel white would get is one of those soft pretzels with salt that covers the entire pretzel and makes it so it looks like a block of white salt, but you aren't able to remove any of the salt from the pretzel and you are forced to eat it.

Too bad Calgary doesn't need a goalie... I'd still love to see Glencross in teal.

Who is Wilson targeting

List of possible UFA's that Doug is looking at and thoughts from Sharks fans on acquiring one. Not alot to choose from and some teams that are borderline PO teams I have added. I left out teams within our division with UFA players, seems an unlikely trading scenario.

Bluejackets- Huselius 4.7mil, Pahlson 2.6, Prospal 2.5 I like Pahlson here, has playoff exp 13g/26a , likes the dirty areas.

Isles- Rolston 5mil cagy vet for the playoffs

Canes- Ruutu 3.8 out of our price range but would be a beast in teal

Fla- Samuelsson 2.5 Hard push to get this guy, playoff stats speak for themselves, he puts us over the top IF he stays healthy.

Avs- Hejduk 3, Jones 2.5 slim chance??

Jets- Wellwood 700k

Les Habs- Kostitsyn 3.25

If either or both Ducks/Yotes out of PO pix then I'd love to target Doan or Teemu but that is talk at this point.

No to all. Huselius's cap hit is too high vs his output - I suspect DW if he trades for someone of Huselius's value he'll want a chance at resigning him. Huselius wouldn't be ideal. Prospal - No. I wanted Prospal, and still do, but not at the expense of assets. He's getting 1st line minutes and PP time. He won't get that on the Sharks. Also, DW had ample time to sign him in the off season (he was one of the last FA signings), and he didn't. Pahlson is a shell of his former self - pass.
Isles- Rolston 5mil cagy vet for the playoffs same as Huselius except worse cap hit and worse production

Canes- Ruutu 3.8 out of our price range but would be a beast in teal Possible. Ruutu isn't having the best season so far (most of the Canes aren't), and there is a connection there from the past. He's physical, big, and can help fill our top 6 and/or play on the 3rd line RW. If the Canes look like they'll be tanking, they may do it. The reason why they wouldn't would be because without Ruutu, an already thin D corpse looks atrociously thin.

Fla- Samuelsson 2.5 Hard push to get this guy, playoff stats speak for themselves, he puts us over the top IF he stays healthy. I was someone who advocated for this trade right when he got traded to Florida. He knows TM's system, and he simply is a great playoff performer. Over the course of his career he actually has a higher ppg in the POs than the regular season.

Avs- Hejduk 3, Jones 2.5 slim chance?? No on Hejduk, no on Jones as they'll be wanting to resign him.

Jets- Wellwood 700kNo, won't give up assets for him, especially after rumor is we could have had him and we didn't offer a contract.

Les Habs- Kostitsyn 3.25 Perhaps, but just doesn't feel like a DW kind of player.

If either or both Ducks/Yotes out of PO pix then I'd love to target Doan or Teemu but that is talk at this point.
Teemu hell no, Doan is a pipe dream that will most likely not happen.

Habs will definitely make the playoffs; they're one of the best teams in the league this year. Conversely, there's no way in hell the Ducks make them but Teemu isn't going anywhere regardless. Ruutu is the only guy who interests me on that list as a deadline acquisition. I've always liked Pahlsson (and he's played with Havlat before) but he's redundant with Handzus on the roster (although he is better than Zeus).

Agreed, I really don't see much need right now, the team has a very healthy amount of depth and its starting to gel together very nicely.

If the team doesn't win a cup, its because there *spins wheel*
  • Screwed by the refs
  • Choked
  • go on an injury spree
  • TMac Drinks RW's old Kool-Aid
  • All of the above

I'd also like Korpikoski, (maybe) Comeau, Glencross (a stretch), Moss or (maybe) Bourque.

I'd like to believe that but... just can't for some reason. I think teams will adjust to shut down our top 6 or neutralize them. I like the idea of 3 legit scoring lines so we need to upgrade the 3rd line winger role.

The Sharks don't exactly have a whole ton of assets, so it will be a low risk move if he makes a move for anyone at the deadline.

Not quite imo...we have a great top-6, D core, and goaltending, but our bottom-6 is still very shallow depth-wise. If teams are able to shut down our top-6 or we get a bad injury in the top-6, we are in trouble...I'd say we need at least one more forward for that 3rd line because imho, in the end, McGinn/Mitchell are just not going to cut it. They may prove me wrong however. Go Sharks.
