I don't like Sylvester. He has a swarmy voice, misses calls, and is generally annoying. I would have preferred the home announcing team.

It really doesn't help that they had the crowd turned up so much. I couldn't understand a word he was saying through the first half of the 2nd.

Odd thing to do, since it was super quiet at the supposedly loudest building in the NHL last night. Place was half empty, and I'd guess Sabres fans were somewhere between 25% and 50% of the crowd, depending on section.

Nearly a quarter of the season down and we're three points out of the President's Trophy...I can't imagine being in a better position, especially with a team missing it's starting goalie and not necessarily playing anywhere near their potential.

Sabres always seem to perform better in the latter half of the season anyways so I am happy as can be with the performance up to this point.

For me growing up with RJ on TV (I was for the most part too young to really remember Darling), to me calling the game on TV like RJ does just seems right anyways.

Unfortunately, I am old enough to remember Darling and grew up listening to Ted........ RJ did radio until what, the mid 90's?

RJ is great on TV and ranks up there with Danny Gallivan for the most, creative, entertaining and descriptive quotes in hockey broadcasting history (May Day, May Day is my personal favorite).

But IMO Ted was the Dean of Play by Play and sits at the right hand of Foster Hewitt himself.

RJ's long running performance as the Sabres play by play radio announcer will never, ever be topped.

Agree about Ted Darling. The man was superb.

Remember the games on Channel 7 with Ted, Pat Hannigan and Rick Azar? then they went to Channel 2 with Ted, Hannigan and Ed Kilgore.

The days when intermissions were Showdown and Peter Puck.

Yeah, I remember when Channel 2 got the Sabres away from 7. 1978-ish?Ch 2 had this crazy weatherman... Barry somebody...... who was comical. He came on the air waving these tiny mini sabre flags and wearing a faux Sabre t-shirt grinning like a baboon. I was miffed about the change because I didn't like Ed Kilgore. But he worked out OK in the end. So maybe Sylvester will too. But he'll never be an icon like Ted and RJ.

Just saw a Peter Puck segment on TSN other day. Always felt like that was like a talking down to dumb Americans who didn't know anything about hockey.

Heck, we went to Bison's games in the 60's (Sheldon Kanageisser - spelling unknown) and played as squirts/peewees on outdoor rinks around the city back in the 60's.

Before you write the Sabre's acceptance speech for the President's Trophy........

I don't know why people keep squawking about the Sab's rankings when most of the teams around them have played anywhere from 1-3 less games, which is a lot at this point in the season. Considering the top 11 teams in the East are basically within 4 points of each other, it wouldn't take much of a faulter to go from 2nd to 11th in less than a week.

There's two ways to look at this situation:

1.) As many here keep saying...if THIS is how well they're doing playing the way they are, then when they pick things up, and Miller returns, they'll REALLY do well!

2.) There's no guarantee they'll suddenly gel as the season progresses AND Miller coming back won't neccessarily be the big relief some think it will---keeping in mind he was struggling a lot leading up to his injury. Enroth is the one many were wanting in net.

Me? I am not sure how this will play out. This team continues to be quite fickle. I don't however, think they are nearly as tough as they need to be in many ways, to win a Cup. And you don't make a team tougher by yelling at them to be tougher!

As long as the Flyers, the Bruins, and to a lesser extent the Caps and the Bolts are around in the East, the current Sabres roster will not go far in a post-season.
