Ben Eager

What do you guys think is going on with this guy? I was one who thought him and Hordi would be a wrecking crew of a fourth line. Eager has looked shy to engage and has not hit anything in like 7 games. I think he will get sat when Hordi comes back cuase at least Hordi hits everything that moves. Is it cuase of his concussion? Does he not want to be here? He does not seem to engage at all. We now seem like we are in the same spot at last year with little toughness and no emotion! What do you guys think is going on?

There's a 3 page thread below that might be a starting point.

Very disappointed....I thought he would end up being that key factor, momentum changing type player. Not so much so far. Who knows what it wrong with him.

Doesn't want to risk getting another concussion so soon after his recent one, so no big hits and the now unfortunate subsequent obligatory fights.

That would suck cuase he is a great skater and decent hitter needs to get his head straight

Maybe the fact that he is coming back from a concussion has something to do with how he has been playing.

True, because as we learned from Moreau, O'Sullivan, Fraser, Foster, Nilsson, it's nearly impossible to get rid of such contracts, if the situation requires it.

Give him a bit more time, I think he'll pull out of this funk. He won't end up like the above.

If we ever get into the playoffs, I think fans here will be more concerned about him taking bone-headed runs at the opposing team. Until next season, I can't see him making a change back to his old self this season. He'll probably get his health re-evaluated before he takes blind runs into the boards.

Im not sure where the notion that Eager could "play a bit" ever came from?

His game is nothing more than 4rth line material.

And yes...he has been a disappointment.

He's quick in straight lines...but...he seems...Idunno....small.

Colossal disappointment of epic proportions.

Didn't we drool at the prospect of having a player that was a little "crazy", that would create havoc to the other team, sometimes make dirty hits to injure opponents so that they could get a taste of their own medicine that we've been force fed the past few years...

To use a recent example, remember how there were small stretches where a player like Moreau or Jacques would consistently, game after game, make huge huge hits? That is what I expected from Eager in the games he is dressed for.

Instead, we get a guy who's a little too smug from hearing from the media how he's not just a tough guy but someone who can actually play hockey, tries to do a little too much with the puck, and from my limited viewings, hasn't been consistent with making big hits. I haven't seen any Oiler make any big hits apart from Sutton in the game that lead to his suspension.

It's still early though. I hope he can prove me wrong. But his play, or lack thereof, is actually making me want to see Hordichuk return from his injury quicker. That way they can both fight for the same spot on the 4th line and maybe not take their spot for granted.

Beside Moreau it were all salary dump for salary dump trades or buy outs.
Exactly the thing no team needs.

Given the option right now, I'd flip the deals that him and Hordichuk got... I didn't like the signing at the time, and now it's just terrible

Can Antti Tyrvainen get called up to replace Eager? He was rumoured to be quite a pinball, Esa Tikkanen type player although smaller.

Petrell is supposed to be a centre, isn't he? Tyrvainen - Petrell - Harski would be a great energy line.

I believe Tyravainen has a broken arm, plus he's been HSed in OKC so he may not be the best option. Hartikainen isn't a fighter but he plays a high energy game, he's who i'd call up.

In his time with the Sharks he was a bit too crazy, but there is no doubt he has a good amount of skill. Seems like a 3rd/4th line case of all the tools and no toolbox.
