Value is close, but the Avs can't afford to trade Stastny for that kind of package right now, maybe at the trade deadline if they're out of the playoff picture.

Absolutely no from Ottawa. Maybe for Duchene. And I don't see how it's a rumor if you made it up and don't have a source

I wouldn't trade that 1st and Cowen just because Cowen is a natural Winner, the only reason he has two silvers is cause Schenn is a legit Choker.

Cowen has
a Memorial Cup, Calder Cup, two Silver Medals and was a first round pick.

Ottawa does need a second center/second line center.

But I agree with Ivan that Colorado can't really afford to trade him and the teams are both in weird places where it wouldn't happen.

Doesnt make sense for either team right now.

Value favours Colorado a bit as well imo

No thanks. We've got Spezza as our #1 center, and hopefully Zibanejad can become a solid 2nd line center, and we've still got DaCosta to rock the #3C spot along with a variety of other guys who could push for that spot as well.

Cowen is our only shutdown d, Foligno has been really strong this year, and we don't want to be trading our first when it still could be a lottery pick.

No thanks.

I'm a pretty big believer in Stasny, but this trade would open up a longterm hole for Ottawa (shutdown top-four defenceman) to fill a short term hole (2nd line center).

So in that rehard it's pretty bad from an Ottawa perspective, although I don't see why Colorado would make this deal either.

I would do Rundblad and Foligno for Stastny, and I understand why Col would not accept.

Ottawa has Spezza and young centers can develop thanks him... plus they have not average but very good prospects there... Zibanejad, Da Costa and maybe Regin (but he is not a prospect it is right) From the first pick they can draft another great player so IMO bad trade from Sens perspective.

Overpayment by OTT, and doesn't fill a need. As others have said, Cowen is in our long-term plans, and we have nothing to replace him in the system. The 2012 1st will be high too. I like Stastny, but he is overpaid (not drastically though), and as others have mentioned, we have Spezza, Zibanejad, and Da Costa down the middle, not to mention Regin and Foligno (who is a natural center, though he has played a lot of wing for us).

Plus, Stastny's contract could interfere with us resigning Rundblad, Karlsson, Zibanejad, etc down the road.

I don't think I'd do this, and it has nothing to do with value. With Spezza, Zibanejad, Da Costa, Regin, possibly our 2012 1st down the middle, the last thing we need is another center.

A little too much for a second line center IMO. Stastny is probably a bit too good and veteran of a player for the sens to acquire right now. Contract isn't great either, if he had one more year I'd like it a lot more.

Not sure it helps us short term either since we create two holes in our lineup to overkill another position.

Time will tell if Regin and Da Costa will be NHL centers. Having Spezza, Stastny, Zibanejad(nice 3rd line center until he is ready to take overtop 6 duties) and Smith down the middle would be great center depth.

By the way I don't think Stastny's contract would in anyway hurt our chances to resign Karlsson(Gonchar's money), Rundblad(Kuba's money) or Zibanejad(Stastny contract is out before Zibanejad needs to be resigned).

I don't like the idea of trading for players making 6.6 million per, at those numbers I'd rather try my hand with a top UFA and keep the assets.

Change Cowen to Rundblad, 1st to 2nd. Not because Rundblad is more valuable.

You do make a good point about the resigning. Regarding whether these will be NHL centers, since we already have our #1 center, we only need them to be a #2. I'd say the chances of Zibby developing into a 60 point, good 2-way center, especially with his size and skill are pretty good. Regin and more so Da Costa I think could almost be a 3rd line center (production-wise) right now, then you have Smith for the 4th line. I just don't see where Stastny is needed. Sure, he's an upgrade on Regin and Da Costa, but not enough to make it worth giving up those assets.

No thanks from Ottawa. A second line center would be nice, but we are not desperate enough for one right now to warrant giving up two key pieces of our future.

TBH I don't feel the need to make any trades. At least not franchise-altering ones. Just ride it out with the guys we have and fill holes through the draft and free agency.

This. He's getting better every night too.

He's a strong candidate for the most under the radar standout rookie in the league. Top 10 in hits and an absolute cloud of disruption in the defensive end...his stick is on everything. He's like a Derian Hatcher clone.

Cowen's gonna be so important in Ottawa. Coincidentally, the last time he ****ed up was the last time we played Colorado.

No thanks from OTT

Jared Cowen looks like he's going to be a very good top 4 player and has been very solid so far for Ottawa

Our pick is going to be in the 1-10 range and I rather keep that as we are in a rebuild mode. 2012 draft looks promising.

Foligno is kinda meh, good 3rd line player that can be used on 2nd line when the injuries hit in, or as it is now.. lack of better option.
