I don't care who it is. It's a 50/50 contest. You miss, you're done. The player who commited the penalty is off the hook rather easily. At least with a PP, you have 2 minutes.
Imagine if Greene has a PS. I sure as hell would rather have the PP.
well no. I think teams should be offered if they wont a PS or a PP, but in a situation like that, you would take the PS 100% of the time. Kopitar scores 40% of the time whereas our pp scores 20%, why on earth would you take the worse odds?

I guess what I'm just saying is that it's more frustrating when you fail on a penalty shot than you do a power play. Teams should still be awarded the power play if they miss the penalty shot. IMO, there should be more punishment for ruining a breakaway illegally.
On one hand, you want to blame Kompon for his ineptness but at the same time, you won't give him any credit because he's not actually out on the ice? Did I understand you correctly?
So, you'll blame Kompon but won't give him any credit?
It is quite obvious that his system is outdated, isn't based on any skill, and is just looking for randomness rather than using your skill to give yourselves the best chance every game over just praying the puck into the net. A lot of our goals come from broken plays and improvising (which is skill based), there are far more effective systems out there than ours.
What I am saying is Kompon just tells them to get someone in front of the net and lob the puck there as much as possible, but now with Brown-Kopitar-Richards-Doughty-Johnson, things are falling into place more. Things are becoming more effective because our skill has gone up and we've gained experience, not because our system has changed or any effectiveness has been added by the coach.
It is pure randomness that you are praising, the system has been the same for the past 6 years, not changed in the slightest.
It is like someone like Holmstrom getting pucks bounced off his face in front of the net to score goals, if it bounces wide a couple of times, the coach is going to say in an interview that they need more from him, but if it bounces in the net then they will say he is doing a good job and to keep doing what he is doing, but there is no difference between both efforts, he has been doing the same thing over and over, it is just the luck of the draw and the guy shooting the puck that determines whether it bounces off him into the net or wide.
We are only a few games in, randomness plus skill has helped us, but let's wait till the end of the season to see how it really does, I can flip a coin and it lands on heads 8 our of 10 times, but that doesn't mean that if I flip it again I have an 80% chance at heads, need a larger sample size. The previous years we were 21st, 7th, 14th, 17th, and 10th in the league respectively. Detroit? 5th, 9th, 1st, and 3rd. Much more consistent, and they control their destiny a lot more than praying the bounces go their way, they control the play.

The Wings have a good Power play cause of SKILL. Not the Coach. They have more skill, than the Entire Kings roster. Richards and KopI, really are the only guys with Vision and Skill.
As much as I love Drew, I think he is a problem on the Power play. I don't Think Kompon has anything to do with it.
The Forwards Today have left The Wings D men open a lot today. I know for a fact Terry Murray or anyone really, doesn't coach that.

Skill helps, but you can't for a second tell me that the Red Wings' system doesn't factor into their success. Fox praises it every chance he gets. It is one of the most effective and efficient systems in the NHL and it helps their players utilize their skill and be more creative.
