Training Camp article, Ed Moran 09/14

With the World Cup and impending lockout, I keep forgetting that we would normally be armpit-deep in preseason hockey talk at this time of the year.

http://www.philly.com/mld/philly/spo...ey/9657769.htm

I'm sure Bundy just showed up at the door like a lost puppy and after downing a bowl of kibble, was welcomed with open arms. After all, he's a lifetime member and unrestricted free agent, so why not?

Maybe Bundy wants to sign an AHL contract...?

Pitkanen in with the Phantoms He had a good rookie season, and hopefully time in the AHL will allow him to dominate and build his confidence

Not that I am hoping for a lockout, but I do beleive that for the Flyers, a lockout will help their bodies, the article says that Primeau, Kapanen and Roenick still experience concussion-like symptoms. Perhaps a shortened schedule, if there is one, will help serve the Flyers well.

Pitkanen, Sharp and Siedenberg will all play for the Phantoms.

Besides no hcoeky this lockout really effs up Carter and Richards. They'll end up with no chance to play for the big club this year.

May make it more likely that one of or both LeClair & Amonte return for one more year.

who knows how the new rules will deal with the un-signed draft picks... i must say, as much as i would like to see those guys up with the big club for any season that may happen next year, might not work to sign guys in december or whenever a season gets worked out.

Pitkanen could tear the guys in the AHL a new one with his rushing ability, he was just a pecking off lighting the lamp a few more times last year, should be fun to watch in the AHL... and not the worst thing for his development either. Low pressure situation, he'll have superior talent to basically everyone on the ice... good thing.

Yeah, Amonte and Leclair are going to be interesting decisions in the event of a half-season lockout. So many issues surrounding that... what will the CBA system be? how will it deal with contract buy-outs? i'm sure the NHLPA will negotiate something to deal those situations. all up in the air.

if only a season was going to exist...

It will be too late to bring them back up, whether they are signed or not.

Once they get sent back to Jr. Hockey they can't be recalled during the season until their Jr. seasons end.

They have to be signed first, although I'm just assuming it is a matter of time after the CBA is done with.

I hope they don't go back into the draft if the lockout lasts that long...

The Flyers will sign them before that would ever happen

"Sharp, Joni Pitkanen, Dennis Seidenberg and some of the younger players and prospects will be fine because they can play in the AHL.

But it will not be so for the players with one-way contracts, agreements that will prevent them from playing in the minor leagues."

Thought I read the other day that both sides will waive this rule and allow previously ineligible players to play in the AHL.

Pitkanen in the AHL, interesting. Give him top 3 minutes and see what he can do, and pair him with someone who can play the body

yeah... definitely gonna be worth going. pitkanen could tear the AHL up, and the experience on the surface and physicality will be good for him.

AHL is great cuz it's cheap and really fun hockey. Not as much of the constrained defensive hockey that goes on in the NHL cuz the players simply tend not to be as strong defensively.

the only thing that keeps you out is whether or not you have a two-way contract... otherwise Seids would have crossed the 50 game line wouldn't he?

They're supposedly waiving it.

Keep that loser away from this team. I don't want our young D-men to pick up any pointer from him.

I think Therien has a lot to offer somebody, but I wouldn't worry too much. I don't think he'll be brought back unless he's prepared to be a 7th defenseman. Even then, I think the club wants to go in a different direction. I think he was just around because he lives in the area, knows everybody, and his parting wasn't "ugly."

The AHL will be very good hockey as long as the lock out lasts. Just a note, due to these NHL players moving down to the AHL I wonder what the career minor leaguers that lose their jobs think.
