That problem goes beyond one player. We could sure use Wisniewski, but not at the kind of money he is making. Columbus made a huge mistake paying him #1D money.

What would make you think he will have reduced mobility? If it really is just 'debris' than it has no effect on the knee structure itself. Markov was an asset not because of his superior skating and mobility, he really didn't skate that much with the puck, but his vision and great first pass is what the Hab's miss the most IMO. Thats what made him so dangerous on the PP.

Why not? It's not like it's unheard of.

Consider the cases we have of players who came back after really long-term absences. Patrice Bergeron. Saku Koivu. Even Mario Lemieux (proportionately of course!). All very cerebral players who missed a very long period of time on very debilitating injuries, and yet came back near their previous level.

It might not be immediate, but there's certainly reason to believe Markov will recover even from a long absence.

everytime i think about it

that knee on knee between markov and cole was even more devastating than we all expected, it just HAD to be the same knee he had JUST gotten operated on, and you look at the replay and the severity of the contact, you literaly SEE markovs knee just give OUT

man...im not surprised anymore all this is happening

theres 1 thing you dont mess with when it comes to professional athletes in any sport, and thats the KNEE,

he will never be the same again, and its too bad

Are you personally paying Markov's salary? If he's forced to retire it won't hurt the cap.

Yeah you're right. It is way too much money for a PP specialist. Just would be nice to have him honestly. I miss the invisible stick and that awesome shot. He made things happen on the PP. I miss Hammer too to be honest. I hate our D right now and I guess I'm pissed off about the Markov news. Either way, like I said Markov or not the D Gauthier went into the year with is beyond awful.

If Markov was any kind of professional he would just retire. This whole story, is full of **** and stinks of misinformation. Markov is done everyone. If you can't see this, your on the same bus that thought Koivu would never be traded. Time to move on. We got hosed on this contract (another), if this isn;t the dagger that sacks both PG and JM I don't know what will.

Alright. Good for you for being optimistic but I'm not buying it. I guess only time will tell.

Andy ,

so what are we goona do know? trade away ANOTHER 2nd rounder to replace Markov AGAIN??

That would make

3 second round picks
1 3rd round
and a 5th round

That is what we had to give up for Markov injury!!!

IT IS GETTING STEEP ..

Personally i'm angry at the 3 yr deal, after having to give up so much to try to plug his hole .

I'm not paying it, but I don't like seeing the team handicapped because of the misinformation that has been thrown out. And in a sense yes we ARE paying his salary.

If Markov was a man he would retire. We are becoming the laughing stock of the NHL. The Gomez contract and now the Markov fiasco.

Can we believe anything the Habs management say now about Markov ?????? 3 weeks? HA ...
So you would rather believe a guy claiming to have 'inside knowledge'? Personally I don't think the Hab's management have to tell the fans anything, we're not paying the salary. They hardly speak at all, and they purposely keep things vague, so you're right that we probably shouldn't believe them, but we shouldn't believe anyone, instead we should just let it all play out.

After this news, a part of me feels like he is done for the season too, i feel horrible for the guy understand what he is going through

In hindsight would have been great if we prepared as if markov would be in this situation, but Gauthier must have been assured Markovs knee would be fine

I really would love to see this team healthy

Lol, alright. The Markov signing might be a gift in disguise. Without him, the D-squad sucks, therefore, the team plays like **** so they will be able, with 1 or 2 moves to get some great young players and finally have some elite offensive talent that they desperately need and be contenders from next year on.

As devastating as Bergeron, Koivu and Lemieux's maladies were, none of them were entirely tactile, physical injuries which are unpredictable and reoccuring. If Markov can't even practice without reinjuring his knee and requiring surgery to 'clean up debris'...imagine what will happen to him in a game?

He might as well retire. Subban is our number 1 dman at age 22 with all his glaring inconsistencies. Or, Gorges (a good, very hard-working player but no more than a number 4 on a good team) is our number 1. Well done Pierre.

You know this for sure? With this group running the team we will sign a 5'2 Goalie from Somalia.

I know Hammer is having an awful season but who knows how he would have done had he stayed here. Gambling on Markov made sense but losing Hamrlik hurt. Emelin has the potential to be better than the old Hammer, but he's inexperienced right now.

What is also hurting is how poor PK's shot has been.

lol

Gauthier is now going to make a few moves trading away picks and prospect to save his ass from this horrible move.

Yeah I don't expect Markov to be back until mid January at the earliest but this is the 3rd set back he has had in his attempt to return and it is now 12 months and counting.
Not good news.
