Foolsihly indeed, just like every other bottom 6 player with the exception of Hagman, not one person is proven in a third line role.
Hagman?! Now that's funny. Just because he's another senior citizen on this team, does not mean he's "proven" for anything. When the Calgary Flames let you walk...
At least our "bottom" six are not minus 18 combined in the last two games!
Beleskey has nobody to blame but himself, he had every opportunity but his hockey sense really held him back. If he was smart enough to not screw up every cycle, get open and use his shot to his advantage he could have at least stuck in a complimentary role with Getzlaf and Perry.
That being said, he was about the only physical bottom 6 forward we had left. I'm with Dirk, this team is boring as hell to watch right now. Sometimes I wish I wasn't so loyal to this team because I've wasted so many hours watching ******** hockey this season when I could be doing other things.

Hes had three 40 point seasons, and the Flames are ahead of us in the standings, I dont see what youre getting at.

Too bad Beleskey never could translate his offensive game from juniors, yet he was still one of few forwards on the team that played physical and he wasn't on a bad contract either. Hopefully no team claims him, but a 23 year old with his junior history, rookie season and physical style is unlikely to go through.
As for Nodl, I wouldn't mind him given that he's better with the puck than anyone else in the Ducks bottom six not named Hagman. But then on the other hand the team already has too many players who are either small or not very physical.
If you can't make the lineup in the worst...err second worst team in the NHL, I have doubts any team would want you. If Martin St Louis and Danny Briere can pass through waivers once in their lives, I'm sure Beleskey will have no problems getting sent to Syracuse.
If he does get claimed, then in the future we'll have to see if all of Maxwell, Macenauer, McMillan, and DSP stay better than him in the future. If even one of them is worse, then this was a bad move because one of the other bubble players could have been moved instead.
I'm not entirely agreeing with that logic, as it implies that Beleskey would (or even could) end up taking the same development route here compared to elsewhere. He might well put things together at some point, somewhere. I would only really consider this a bad move if he shows he can be noticeably better in the rather near future, a season, for example. Only then we could really say that we should have kept him around over one of the other guys, in my opinion. What happens beyond such a time is pretty unprojectable, and impossible to argue whether he could have gotten there with us.
This thread reads exactly like the one when Brendan Mikkelson was waived. Everyone said someone is going to claim him and he will be a full time NHLer. And here he sits playing for the Abbotsford Heat in the AHL.

There's 12 forward positions, compared to 6 on defense. Beleskey is a role player, who as a forward, can stay in the big league despite being average defensively at best. Mikkelson on the other hand, being a defenseman, can't survive being bad in his own end.
This isn't going to come back to haunt the Ducks in the future, I'm just upset because this team lacks a mean streak up front. Moving Beleskey doesn't help that.

I could agree with near future for Beleskey. Although that would be longer than just 1 season. But the other guys would have to be given longer than that to see if they surpass Beleskey's best in the next say 3 years.

Kind of true in general. I for one, was glad we got rid of Mikkelson. I knew he was never going to amount to much. I had only wished we could have gotten something for Mikkelson. With Beleskey, I don't really want to get rid of him in the first place. Although I wouldn't care if he clears and just plays in the AHL.

Was there really nobody out there that would give up a pick for this guy? Or, as others have said, use him in a package of some sort to acquire something else? I know he's struggled, but the guy seems as though he could have fetched something back for the Ducks.
wow. great shakeup murray.. i personally dislike this move.. i liked bells.. hope he doesn't get claimed but if he does jesus.. knowing our luck a rival is going to claim him and turn him into a good 3rd liner somehow..
One other thought in regards to how Beleskey looks vs 1st/2nd year players like DSP, McMillan, etc.
Our team has a history of young lower potential guys looking surprisingly good their first year or two, only to regress and not really recover until they were jettisoned. Miller, Carter, Shannon, Ebbett, Bodie. Include some younger guys who still had a little experience like Chipchura. They often even get a surprising turn at PK and do decently well. And now there's Beleskey, who seems to be doing the same thing.
Well now we have Gordon, McMillan, Macenauer, and DSP all looking surprisingly good and better than Beleskey. And Beleskey may or may not break out of it. But they may regress just like how he did.
One of this organzation's failures through the entire history is its general inability to draft and develop 3rd and 4th liners. Have we even developed and maintained one?
