Talbot would still be stinking it up with the Pens. He was still eating on that Game 7, no motivation to pick up his game. He'd still be sloughing it, guaranteed.

Change of scenery in a formerly hostile environment forced him to prove his worth all over again.

4.75 seems like a hefty price tag.

Yeah, think about if the Pens did trade for him as a rental, 0% chance the Pens would have been able/willing to sign him for near that during the off-season.

Yep. I'm glad I'm not the GM.

Didn't he ask for something like $2.75m or something though?

Talbot doing well pleases me though. Ovechkin not playing tonight either.

I think there's a lot of merit to this. Talbot just seemed like he was coasting on past success here. In Philly, it's like he's motivated once more to prove himself all over again.

It kind of sucks that his career year (regular season-wise) is coming the first year he leaves Pittsburgh, but I don't think he'd be having that same success if he re-signed with the Pens.

Capitals down 2-0 after 1 to the Sens. Watching their fall has been pretty fun I have to admit. I don't even think they've hit rock bottom yet either.

I rarely go on other teams boards but decided to take a quick look at the Caps board and saw a thread titled "Alexander Ovechkin-The end of an era?"...I don't even have to open it and read it, the headline is amusing enough.

A Washington Post columnist wrote a column today advocating that the Caps blow it up, starting with dealing Ovechkin.

2009 was a long time ago, wasn't it?

shows you how fast this game can change. Ovechkin looks like he burned himself out too early in his own career and then you have Crosby with headaches every day. Amazing how times have changed. At least the Pens have been able to persevere.

As I type that, Sens take 4-0 lead.

It just don't make any sense how Ovechkin dropped off like that. To go from one of the best players in the league to a below PPG player? Just odd. It might be time to blow it up.

Ovechkin is on pace for about 60 points...by comparison, Kunitz is on pace for about 55 and Neal for abour 75. Crazy dropoff. Smartest thing would be to get out of that contract and start over.

It's hard to believe I was called out just 2 years ago on another board for saying Crosby > Ovechkin. There's plenty of classic stuff in there.

This group has been through to many disappointments/failures now that I don't think there is anyway back for them. If they do blow it up I'd only keep Backstrom, Laich, Alzner, Carlson and Neuvrith.

Most of my friends have stopped talking to me about Ovechkin for over a year now. There is no doubt not only is Crosby better but Malkin as well

I hate the guy, and think he's a *****, but I still don't think you trade Ovechkin. You trade every single player on that roster and in that system before Ovechkin. The guy has proven he's a 50g, 100p player who can hit like a ****ing truck. You don't trade that, period.

If you need to blow the team up and rebuild, you do it around Ovechkin. Trade whomever you need. Fire/hire whomever you need. You do what it takes.

I agree, they should move Semin and Green and rebuild with the other core they have. I still think they should hang on to Ovie
