Here's a shocker-- what a package of Orpik, Kennedy and a 1st for Ryan?

I love Staal and it's great to finally see him breaking out. It's not an easy choice, but if we got a shot to get Bobby Ryan I'd probably take it. We would finally have a longterm solution for all our top-six winger woes, with some of the best you could ask for to go along with two of the best centers in the game. We played pretty freakin' well half of last season without him, he needs resigned with a raise next year as well, and I think it's best for him to put him somewhere where he'll be in a more offensive role.

Bobby Ryan would be awesome, however Staal is as or more valuable then Ryan. Selke candiate Centers who can pot 30 goals are worth more on the market than guys who put up 35g/35a.

It's not like Ryan is doing this on his own, he's on a line with a 50 goal scorer in Perry, and Gretzlaf is not exactly a slouch at center.

Staal is on a line with Cooke and Kennedy for most of his career, he doesn't get #1 PP time. He is great at killing penalties and is relied on to shut down the other teams top line, he's doing that and on his way to 30G this year.

Why on earth would we trade that for Bobby Ryan, I would want Bobby Ryan + for Jordan Staal.

We are leading the league in points right now, it's fun to say what if, but unless RS gets an offer he can't refuse he won't do anything right now.
You can't call someone a 30 goal scorer when they've never hit that plateau. Ryan on the other hand has hit 30 every year he's been in the NHL.

That said, I wouldn't wanna trade Staal for Ryan. Staal is much more important to this team. From what I've gathered, he seems like he's one of the stronger voices in the room. Also, people need to relax with Martin. Sure, he's having a rough start to the year, but if we trade him away, do people realize Nisky would probably move into the top 4 and our bottom pairing would be Engo and the Rev?!?! They would get destroyed, whether we all want to admit that or not.

There's a reason Martin got the contract he did - he's a really solid defenseman. 20 games doesn't make a career or a contract. He'll turn it around and once the playoffs get here, when Big Z and Martin are shutting everything down, his start this year will be a distant memory.

OR, we could package Paul Martin instead of Orpik, plus one of our surplus top nine wingers (Kennedy or Cooke or Kunitz or Dupuis, whomever Anaheim wants) and throw in either Tangradi or our first rounder (again, Anaheim's choice). Sweeten the pot if Anaheim deems Martin worse than Orpik.

I love Tangradi but he's not Bylsma's cup of tea. I'd rather he get a real shot somewhere. Plus I'd rather have Bobby frickin' Ryan!

I thought with the limited NTC's, the player had to list the teams before the season starts of what ones he wouldn't go to.

Paul Martin doesn't have a full-blown NTC. He has one of the ones I mentioned above.

If Paul gets 8 teams, who is to say Anaheim is on that list?

Martin has a NMC and limited NTC, according to Cap Geek. But there's no further explanation of what Martin's NTC entails. I think the limited NTCs are different for every case. It's written in the contract language of the specific player. We probably have no chance of finding out what's in Martin's NTC contract language (these are the mystery Pens, after all).

But Shero would know all of this...he'd know if Martin has no desire to play on the West Coast or whatever. Although I'm not sure the player has to list teams before the season starts. Again, I think that would be in the contract if it exists. I don't think there are specific guidelines re: limited NTCs, though I could be wrong.

Haha. I pictured the same. I'd love it if he got in, but I just don't see him being flashy enough. Maybe a breakaway competition, maybe.

Truth be told, if Sid keeps playing the way he has since he came back, all three of our centers deserve to be there. In addition, Letang and MAF deserve to be there as well.

You're quite right. In the CBA it's listed under Individually Negotiated Limitations on Player Movement, with the only limitation really being that the player has to be a group 3 UFA during the years of the NTC/NMC.

It'll be interesting to see how Carolina and Washington respond to a coaching change. Both teams play tonight.

Odd to think last month or so a match up of St Louis v Washington wasn't going to be about their new coaches.

Yeah. There was a sense that Boudreau would go eventually, but not in this type of scenario.

Better this year than last. I took a road trip to catch a Sens-Caps game last year there. Wow was the crowd silent all night. Shocking for a Canadian hockey crowd, really.

Any thoughts on acquiring Bobby Ryan?

It seems pretty clear that Anaheim wants to move Ryan. Shero has a trade history w the Ducks. Think he could make something happen? What would you consider?

Ottawa fans are probably splitting the votes for Anderson & Auld since they believe just like in many Senator games, both should play
