I have been a diehard Habs fan since '93, but the day my Saku leaves Montreal is the day my hockey loyalties become split. I've said it before, I'll say it again: I REALLY hope he gets an extension from Montreal like the one Alfredson got this year from Ottawa, where they said he'll be "a Senator for life."

And for the record, it would be "ARE Saku's days in Montreal numbered."

You may have a point about Koivu being a No2 centre. However, it would be in situation where you have an elite player like Thornton, Lecavalier or Sakic in the depth chart, IMO. There are not too many teams that have such a player.

I think BG would trade Ribs in a heartbeat if the offer is right. He brings a lot less to the team than Koivu does as pointed earlier. In fact, I'm thinking Ribs should be concerned about Chipchura should the latter attain his projected level of play.

And don't forget about Pleks and Higgins (and maybe Locke and Urquhart). IMO, Ribs' place is more endangered by those guys than Koivu's.

Didn't we make the same mistake back when we had Turgeon, Damphousse and Koivu ? We HAD to make place for Koivu

I can definately live with a Koivu-Ribeiro/Plekanec-Bonk/Chipchura-Begin depht at center. And I'm sure Julien is happy when he has a lot of options too.

One of the above names don't belong on the same list with the others! Pierre Turgeon and the word 'leader' are way to close together in your post!

Agree with all your points overall, but you should really remove Pierre Turgeon's name from the above list. The other captains were good captains and their trades did hurt the franchise, but Turgeon....I dunno.

Right now, considering age, size, and skills if I were the Habs' GM, I would trade Koivu even up for any of the following centers:

Shane Doan, Joe Thornton, Milan Hejduk, Olli Jokinen, Patrick Elias, Michael Handzus, Pavol Demitra, Patrick Marleau, Vincent Lecavalier and Brad Richards. All are under 30, are 6' tall and weigh 200 lbs or more, except Hejduk who is 5'11" 185 lbs, but I'd take him just the same.

Aren't they wingers? (I'd take them anyway )

Hejduk is a winger, I stand corrected. Elias and Demitra are however listed as centers in the NHL Guide and Record Book but also play as wingers. Replace Hejduk by Jason Arnott or Brendan Morrison.

I however believe that Saku will not be traded by the Habs as long as George Gillett owns the team.

In other news, Pierre Mondou had a better career PPG than the Pocket Rocket. Wow. Learn something new every day.

Reason #312 I want to bust Ulf Samuelsson's kneecaps with a crowbar. Slowly.

Trading Koivu makes the most sense because his trade value is high. He would bring a franchise type player at another position. Riberio is local, still young and improving and makes about one-third to what Koivu makes. They just acquired Bonk so I can't see trading him so soon. Higgins is at most, a year away. Chipchura and Locke will soon follow him. Not to mention good prospects like Plenacek or Urgahart.
no way he's the heart and soul of our team.

I wouldn't trade Koivu for either of these guys. Arnott I like, but he's a tier below Saku, if not two, and Morrison without his linemates is a ham-and-egger getting 45 points a year.

The return would be slim for Koivu.

We better keep him.

Will he remains a Habs? There is a good chance. He seems to like Mtl. But what if Mtl only offer him 10M for 2 years while Detroit wants him for 4 years 25M?

And what about the Cap/Tax of the next CBA? What is the Mtl payroll? What will it be next year? There so much unknows.

One thing is sure. Unless Koivu is traded, he is a Habs for another full year (be it a 82 games or shorten schedule). After that, everything is up in the air...
I agree...he will be in Montreal another year. But will there be hockey in that year??

I don't think I would trade Koivu straight up for Handzus.

I would be looking for a Ryan Smyth, Morrow or Jeff O'Neill type player

Where are the board moderators?

How do you contact them?

You can PM them or what works best is if there is a post that is offensive, you use the report post feature and a moderator will respond as soon as possible.

Now, to the people who are name calling, stop it.

Does the lockout make so people bored that they come up with these ideas?
