That was all Wideman though. Caps deserved that game. I hope Eakin is ok. That was bush league.

He played later, he's fine.

Played a solid 60 minute game, but damn do those Thrashers give us fits or what the past year and a half.

Between Chimmer and Sid, I would think there would be some motivation there, yes.

You know I normally cringe when I see Sarge defend, but I have to say I was impressed with that Atlanta 2 on 1 and how he stepped up.

Happy at the result, however thought that Pavalec sold the goalie interference with his embellishment and flop, it was all he could do because he knew Knuble had him, referees should have recognized that. Glad to see Chimera score with Byfuglien still having to cross check him in the back after the puck's in the net what a Richard Cranium Byfuglien is, didn't like him either continuing to push Backstrom in the back of the head while Nick's lying prone on the ice during the OT either.

That was a boss play. No doubt that saved the game.

If I were Boudreau I may consider sticking Chimera on the top line for a few games. They could use the speed I think.

4 on 4 hockey always gives me glimpses of the real Ovechkin. I wish BB could find a way to get him open ice, because when he gets it he's still the most dangerous player in the game. I really believe that the reason for his offensive struggles is due to much better team defense. He could definitely help himself in the defensive zone and by controlling the puck better, but he just doesn't have the space nor the time he used to.

Yeah it is worth a try. He can hit too which is another plus and with his speed he can give Ovechkin a passing option if defensemen focus on Ovy. Sort of like the opening goal with Ovy to Semin. Its worth a try this early in the season.

Just returned from the game. Very entertaining.

-Somewhere around halfway through the second period, everyone from the players to the fans to the officials all realized that a physical game could break out and the chintzy calls were not going to happen. Could there be a missed infraction here and there? Sure. Totally worth it to give the players some confidence that they could toss a few hits and not be rapped over the knuckles for it.

-Orlov is an awfully exciting young prospect. The throwback hip check practically made me weep. When the stick launched into the crowd, well the fans erupted.

-I thought the Hendricks goalie interference call was just. Also loved that he was in Pavelec's grill. Hendricks played mean all game long. Great to see.

-Great seats along the ice. Detail apparent. You see certain Capitals smiling and laughing, and other guys who look like their dog just died.

-The Jets uniforms are incredibly sharp. The robin's egg blue arm bands are obviously a poor decision, but the logo is something else. They're going to need to wear that at home for the playoff whiteouts in Winnipeg... eventually.

-Encouraging: Pretty Ovechkin to Semin feed for a goal. Carlson with a heads-up 4-on-4 breakout and Wideman with a beautiful pinch to set up chimera for the tap in.

Anybody see shades of Souray in Orlov's play?

Just got back from the game, here are my observations.
1. Chimera is like a different player this season. Its like someone infused him with skill.
2. We seem to have more trouble settling pucks than most teams, especially at the blue line. Leads to a lot of rushes the other way.
3. Ovie just seems to go two speeds. Super fast and loafing. If he would slow down just a tad when handling the puck and use his body to shield it he might not fumble it so much. Then turn on the afterburners when he has space or when he doesn't have the puck on rushes.
4. Orlov is a keeper.
