I seriously thought the league had decided it didn't want there "SuperTeams" anymore? League says the nixing was "Basketball-related" but I doubt it was totally....
Seems the league is already trying to get itself into financial trouble again.

NBA wants Paul in New York. No way he signs with the Knicks if he goes to the Lakers. Keeping him in New Orleans will force him into free agency and into the arms of the Knicks.
That's my conspiracy take.
That is, assuming this doesn't completely blow up in their face, which it may given some of the legal threats being made.
As far as I'm concerned anything that makes the NBA even more unstable and ready to die is a Good Thing. But I'm just a hater.

Thanks, Howson, for cleaning up MacLean's toxic waste. Welcome, Kekalainen; let's get good things built!
Well, I see that UC basketball continues their longstanding tradition of putting on the floor the biggest bunch of dumb thugs they can find. Apparently, though, those that don't go to UC can find a home at X. Pathetic.

Xavier has gangstas, but not thugs, according to Tu Holloway.

Maybe one of my favorite athlete quotes ever.
A rather finely drawn distinction by young Mr. Holloway! That, alone, should have earned him more than one game off, though I agree, it's certainly a memorable quote!

It's a sad case. My daughter goes to Xavier ... the other students don't talk well about the BBall players (male or female). If they weren't playing sports, I would guess the majority of them wouldn't get into the school.
My family especially despises Kenny Frease. He's approached my daughter multiple times and it got to the point that the last time I was down and he approached her I had to tell him to stay away or we'd have to think about filing a harassment claim with the school (he hasn't approached her since then).
Xavier's a great school, but it's a sad case that athletics has taken a priority over the values that the school stands for.

Stand up and cheer!
Stand up and cheer for Old Ohio!
For... we... won a bowl...
It's something we had never done!
Chow down those 'taters
For they've never tasted this good.
We won on turf. Made by a Smurf.
This has been Old Ohio's year!

Congrats to the Bobcats and BobKittens on the board.
Still have to wait for official word, but it appears to be the case. Personally I don't care about that, it's one year. The scholarships might be a big deal, don't care enough about college football to care.
Although I will watch some OSU football next year, curious to see what is going to happen on the offensive side of the football.
NCAA says no bowl game for OSU after the 2012 season, per the Dispatch.
Really wish they would have done a self-imposed bowl ban this season. Seems ironic that the coach and players responsible wont be around next season for the discipline.

I have to think that the juniors on the team who did nothing wrong have to be incredibly pissed off right now. Would the NCAA allow those who want to transfer to other schools to do so without a one year waiting period?
Had the players not played in the bowl last year I doubt there would have been any bowl ban, instead we tried to cut some deal so the players could play and take their suspensions next year(this past season). Then the NCAA finds out about more stuff and we made them look like fools.
All in all pretty ******, I would think Smith is going to get fired any minute now. I bet Urban is pretty pissed 2.

Had Tressel done what he was supposed to, this all would have been over in a couple of weeks. Downside, of course, he'd still be here.

I think the bowl ban is strictly about the issues AFTER tattoo gate. Tressel took the brunt of all the tattoo blame.
But OSU kept insisting their investigations were over and no more violations would come out and yet others did. Minor violations in the scheme of things sure, but you can only say "we investigated, this issue is over" so many times.
Personally, I think that the NCAA made a big blunder here. The self imposed sanctions by OSU were already pretty tough, and no one would have thought much about it had the NCAA gone along with them.
This decision by the NCAA shows a total lack of any fairness, or understanding of what affect banning a major program like OSU from a bowl game will do to so many entities. The lost revenue to so many businesses, OSU, the Big 10 along with major TV revenue lost will be staggering.
Ludicrous decision by a power hungry, dictatorial, and out-dated organization.
