11/23/11: "Back To Reality" - Nashville Predators @ Minnesota Wild 7pm

So it's almost noon for all you guys out there so I thought I'd throw together a quick and simple GDT. I've never made one and we need a shake up. The song popped into my mind when I thought about us getting a reality check last night. I'm pretty sure I was probably like 7 years old when this song came out. Oh well.

@

This thread is symbolic of the needs of our team: back to basics.

Win.

I think it's time we bear our teeth a bit... Fitting we play the "best" team in the league actually after crapping our shorts the last two games.

I say we knock a new hole right in their A&& tonight!!!!!

yea well.... Who knows.

We normally don't play well in the state of hockey. We lose 10,000 to 2.

Let the suck begin.

I wanted to post this in a place where most of you guys would see it - though it doesn't really belong here.

The Sled Preds equipment drive was a huge success last night in spite of the Preds play. We practiced after the game with lots of equipment and left the Bridge with even more donations. Most importantly, we found a few new players. Awesome Night.

So thank you all who spread the word, donated, and stopped by our display table!!!

Playing the #1 defensive team eh? No problem. We struggle with offensive juggernauts. I ain't scared of the Mild. Go Preds!!!

So do I get a pass on the GDT blame if we lose because we're playing in Minnesota? haha

I have a weird feeling that the honey badger is pissed and ready to roll.

Preds win 3-2, Smith with 2 goals.

Hell no!

Actually, I'd be ok with reversing the juju with a "get back on the horse" attitude. Lose a game? Try again. Lose two? Then it gets tricky

Tough game tonight, but one I should be able to watch. So far this season we have definitely lost the games I have been unable to watch if we are playing good teams. Maybe it's a good sign (if only I actually was superstitious)

Don't care how. Don't care by how many.

Just. Freakin. Win.

Any word on the lines? Did we successfully conserve Pekka's energy so he can play tonight?

Tough call on Peks. After letting in six goals he might come out hungry to blank the next team, but then again he may already be slightly fatigued or he could not be feeling well (injury or illness... the flu has been going around the league a bit). It's a bad time to sit the best player on your team, but sometimes the best decisions are the hardest ones to make.

Personally, I start him if I'm Trotz. Coach should know what's going on if it's something other than him simply having a poor night. If the guy is tired Trotz is experienced enough to read that. Start him, see how he looks, and if he lets in a couple of bad goals put Lindback in. The Preds don't play again until Saturday anyway.

edit: FWIW http://www2.dailyfaceoff.com/starting-goalies/ has Pekka as the likely starter

It also lists the lines as

Wilson - Legwand - Hornqvist
Erat - Fisher - SK
Spaling - Smith - Tootoo
Halischuk - Smithson - McGrattan

So there's that. Keep checking back to see if they confirm Rinne or change the lines

On top of disliking the Wild owner, their uniforms remind me of Christmas elves.

For that reason, second only to wanting vengeance due to last night, I demand satisfaction. Old timey Southern colonel satisfaction. With the glove slap and everything.

I don't like their current jerseys, but the logo is the best in pro sports in my honest opinion. Insanely creative and bad***.

Totally cool with the logo. It's just the color scheme that makes me hear jingle bells.

John hates Xmas. He also has a heart that is two times too small. The only thing that grows it back to normal during the holiday season is Bombay Sapphire and lots of it

How is ol' Leipold doing in Minnesota anyway? Weren't there rumors of how he was losing money there, too? I'm not sure if I would be shocked or not. On the one hand, he is a terrible businessman. On the other hand, he has a hockey team in the so-called "State of Hockey". Seems like even the worst businessman could at least break even having a hockey team in Minnesota. Maybe he should invest in high school hockey

edited for John's sake

The Blackhawks logo is really good. My second favorite in the league. Voters on this kinda stuff doesn't mean much since it's usually just old stuff. I like the way everything about the Wild logo incorporates the "Wild"erness into it.

BOMBAY SAPPHIRE!!

Last I heard about Leipold he was quite upset with the way things were turning out for the Wild. However, I freely admit I have not researched it and have no intent to do so. That was about a year ago so I have no clue what shenanigans he's up to now.

Hope Pekka is starting. I'm no expert, but my philosophy when dealing with your star players is that if they have a bad game, get them out there again right away. They know what they can do, and what kind of impact they can bring to the team. Gotta let him do his thing. Smith gets back on the score-sheet with a goal tonight!
