Great friends with Shea Weber, might as well start bringing Shea's good buddies in now

This year against teams currently occupying playoff spots Schneider has a 1-4 record with a 3.37GAA and a 0.896SVP. Granted it's a relatively small sample size, but when you consider his performance against playoff teams last year I would argue that Schneider hasn't proven he's anywhere near Luongo's league.
Sorry, nothing I saw last year would lead me to believe Luongo was head and shoulders better than Schneider. I believe Luongo is the better goaltender and it's doubtful Schneider ever becomes a better, more consistent goalie year in, year out but if we're using less cap space on the position and Luongo can bring back assets to make the skaters better it's something you have to look at IMO. Especially when you consider Luongo's term and how the fans and media perceive him.

Again, nothing I've seen since the start of last year would lead me to believe Schneider wouldn't give us more than adequate goaltending. He's technically strong, big and athletic. There's just no reason to assume he would fail if given a bigger role.

Let's target all of Shea's BFFs and rename the Canucks "The Shea Weber Experience".

We don't even have to come up with a new logo, we can just use the Johnny Canuck one.

Question for you guys: Would the Canucks be a worse hockey team without Booth and Ballard?

The 8.5 million dollars we've got tied up in those two really bothers me. Think of the possibilities

I like Booth, to be honest. I'm willing to give him until halfway through to start picking up, after his injury and what we gave up for him (broken old stuff).

Ballard, yeah, I'm done with the Keith Ballard Reclamation Project: Vancouver Edition. He's a good player, just not good enough to make his salary worth it to the Canucks.

i really like keith ballard but for 4.2 million he's not gonna get top 4 mins in vancouver. coach doesnt like him. he's too high risk high reward. gillis might as well find a taker for ballard and use that money to shore up other things.

I'd take Comeau at his cap hit, if it meant Weber was coming soon for a similar one to Duncan Keith, and Gorges would come next year with Weber at a rate similar to the 2.75 a player like Ericsson in Detroit.

Obviously, we'd need to rid ourselves of Ballard and probably Raymond at the very least....a team built around WHL champions would be sick....maybe that knuckle dragger Bruin who I hate now will sign on in the future?

Comeau.... 0 points and -11 in 16 games, averaging 13 minutes ice time per game. Ouch.

To me it's either Ballard or Bieksa.

Having 2 guys that are risk/reward for $4 mil + is silly.

Scored 25 goals last year...im not easily influenced by +/-, especially on bad teams.

To be honest the most i remember of him was at the junior level...

I just want to bring Shea's friends here early...

sedin sedin hansen
booth kesler burrows
higgins hodgson malholtra
lapierre weise

gorges weber
hamhuis bieksa
edler salo
alberts

Luongo
Lack

Currency:

Schneider
Raymond
Ballard
Tanev
Schroeder
1st

Even dropping raymond (RFA) Rome and Ballard wouldn't be enough. Unfortunately I think this might be a Jovo/Niedermayer situation and you'd have to trade Edler to fit Weber.

EDIT: I guess you could let Salo walk as well, then you'd have to let Edler walk for nothing the next year or trade one of Hamhuis/Bieksa/Kesler/Sedin/Sedin (all NTCs) or let all of Lapierre/Higgins/Malholtra/Burrows go.

Oh man 2013-2014 is going to suck.

Here's my campaign on how to bring Shea home:

Photoshop his beard on every player as a proof of our dedication to make him feel welcome. He'll feel more at home if everyone makes an effort:

I call it "Operation Johnny Canuck". Make this happen people. We have to be part of the solution.

That's the thing... he's not really that cheap. 1.2 million? Considering Higgins makes 1.9.... Tanev makes a little less.. so does Sulzer. I know it's not much but for a team SO tight to the cap it is important.

This is the real problem, it's one or the other. We need a dependable two way d-man who is more of a #3/4 that can kill penalties.

If Booth doesn't pick up his game, we are going to regret the trade really soon because Samuelsson's and Sturm's end at the end of this year. His hockey iq and his inability to make passes is really frustrating and although he has a heavy wrist shot, its not very accurate. He's also terrible at even strength as times. Ballard and Booth make up $8,450,000 of cap. I am also done with this Ballard project, he is our 5th best defensemen but he is WAY to expensive. If we are able to dump these contracts soon, it would be really worthwhile. Although we still should be a little patient with Booth.

** FULL EDIT **

After further research, Comeau's #s aren't that scary - he's been taken off the PP this year whereas he was in the rotation LY. And actually, there's a whole bunch of forwards with no ES goals YTD (per bhd net) - here's a short list: (with best single season goal tally (including PP) in bracket):

* Sam Gagner (16)
* Steve Downie (22)
* Andrew Brunette (27)
* Tomas Holmstrom (30)
* Fedotenko (26)
* Blake Wheeler (21)
* Havlat (29)
* Dustin Penner (32)
and many others...

and there's another bunch with only 1 goal at even strength - Eric Staal, RJ Umberger, Dustin Brown, Mikko Koivu etc...

I think Booth can still be successful once Kesler gets going. I think he's shown some things, but he's still a ways away.

As for people talking about ditching Alberts, its hard to argue because he's been downright atrocious this year. This is back to the same guy we got after the trade, and not the steady version we got last year. I'm one of the few Alberts supporters around but there is nothing to support because he's been awful so far. He did play well vs Colorado, but until he can do that for 4 or 5 games in a row he's a big liability back there.
