Thank you. Maybe Kuz wanna play in the KHL till 25 to earn more money staying in Russia and enter the NHL only after 25 (skiping a little money rookie contract)?

If he waits 6 years to come into the NHL, no NHL team is going to offer him big money.

McPhee is going to Russia because he wants ten thousand miles between himself and The Bruins series.

Aren't they just trying to hit the cap floor? And if so, doesn't that make Islanders in general poor comparators? Also, Nelson, though blessed with an awesome name, isn't the prospect Kuz is.

Three years for $3.9M with base, Schedule A and Schedule B bonuses, I'd suspect. He's got all the leverage. He has the leverage of a #1 overall pick.

Agreed. Rookie Max or he stays in Russia, is my guess.

I have no problem giving Kuznetsov rookie max if that's what it takes. Kuznetsov is much better than any other player we could get for that amount.

Maybe in year 2 or 3. But year 1?

Meh. He's going to score. But he's going to be a turn style on defense.

It's a lot to gamble on a guy who could eat 4 million of your cap and maybe won't even be ready to play more than a 10-12 minute a night game for 40 points.

For 3.9, you can get a lot of hockey player.

Sorry if already posted. McPhee didn't go.

Turns out his team made the playoffs.

If he ever comes over, the kid's gonna be special. Wouldn't be surprised in the least with a Malkin-type rookie impact. His ability to possess the puck will do wonders compensating for his weakness on the defensive side.

Not many players at 3.9M that can bring what he brings.

85 points is a pretty steep ask for a kid.

I wouldn't be shocked with 25ish goals and 30 assists. But much more?

Maybe with the high flying Caps. With this PP and what's probably going to be at least some effort on defense (and probably sans-Semin?) and to learn defense?

25-30-55 is about what would be expected of a better top six UFA winger at that price range. It's a long-term investment obviously. I think that's a fairly realistic projection for this fall potentially, provided decent development and coachability.

I would not yet expect a Malkin-type impact. He's currently not fearless enough to have that sort of dominant impact. His play without from the puck in general looks like a real issue. His positioning is okay but it's mainly his lack of readily engaging in and contesting puck battles that leaves a lot to be desired. In open ice and with the puck he's obviously very dynamic but he's softer than Semin when it comes to contact situations and doesn't possess Semin's stick-checking strength. Without real strides in those areas it's really hard to expect him to play a supremely confident game initially at the NHL level.

That's where his drive as a competitor must take over. If he does come over this fall he will benefit greatly from a full off-season of strength training to lay the physical foundation in becoming better in those areas.

If we can get 50 points from this soft, defensively oblivious Russian for $4 million, why pay twice that to Semin for the same "impact"?

I think he'll be ahead physically of where both Skinner and RNH were as rookies, and he's just as talented offensively. Skinner put up 63 points and RNH had a full-season pace of 68.

Kuz will definitely get top-6 minutes, and will see plenty of time (at least on the PP) with 8 and 19, one would think. I think, unless 8 and 19 tank again, Kuznetsov's at 70+. I'm not expecting Malkin numbers, but it wouldn't surprise me, and it's not that huge a step from the 70 point level.

Because Semin isn't defensively oblivious (tied for 3rd-best +/- on the team), but who cares about things like facts?

Semin's defense is great, but he applies himself like 5 percent of the time.

And his salary could realistically be close to 1.8 times Kuznetzov's salary, not twice it. Sorry for the mathematical laziness.

It's funny that those are the nits that get picked -rather than the 50 point thing.

If we're playing hypothetical games, Semin will score 100 points next season for a dollar.

All we do on these boards is play hypothetical games. That's the point, no?
