The source is Daniel Maggio, a draft pick of the Rangers in 2009, who is from Windsor.

Edit: Official now:

Link is fixed now, I deleted the 8 at the end somehow.

Foligno knows him also, so it's safe to say he's legit.
They played on the Wolves together for a couple seasons and Maggio and Kassian played together on Team Ontario at the U17's.

Edit: They go back further than that also, as they both played for the LaSalle M.H.A. Sabres and Windsor Jr. Spitfires.

It'll be interesting to see the lines.

VHP
LRS
GGK
EAT

with Gerbe/Leino potentially flipped as well as Kassian/Tropp potentially flipped.

Unreal. I was interested to see the Caps in the first place, but I'll definitely take a look into tickets on Saturday if he'll be in the lineup. Really wanted to see his first game/first home game.

I predict that there will be immense disappointment if he doesn't grab Jared Boll and make him explode with one punch.

wow. I'm pretty surprised to hear this. I really thought they were not going to touch him at all this year.

Being a Canadian, his Thanksgiving was last month...

That being said he can still do his father proud!

So how many shifts without a hit does it take for everyone to be down on him?

I too am surprised, but hey, if the coaches feel he needs a look at the NHL level, so be it. The excitement of having Kassian will far outweigh the reality of having him play his first NHL game. High expectations breeds high disappointment. Or maybe there will be rose colored glasses for a few posters. I hope he does well, in fact very well. But I feel the exact same way about Tropp, TJ Brennan, Adam, or any rookie playing with the big club. Name on the back of the jersey means very little to me. Performance on the ice does.

I wonder if they tell Kassian to bang a bit more than he does in the AHL because he wont be on the first or second line. Gerbe Goose Kassian is a hard working line that IMO could develop some really solid forcheck. I would be exited for that line.

Kassian has always seemed to do well in his first game with a new club. When he was traded to the Spitfires, he had that huge (though Illegal) hit on Matt Kennady. Then the first game with the sabres in preseason he was very dominant.

Expect a good, but average, game from him. Hopefully he gets an assist or solid hit or fight.

Hopefully he provides more than what he did in preseason....

at least effort wise. Wasn't impressed with his camp at all.

But..this is his chance.

I wonder if he brings the game he played in Rochester or the game he played in Junior. My guess is he plays however Ruff wants him to play. Hopefully they let the kid do his thing.

As long as "his thing" contributes to winning. And doesn't contribute to us practicing our PK over and over.

And hopefully "his thing" won't be more of the neutered-into-the-Sabres-soft-mindset-via-Rochester that the Sabres have too much of in their lineup...

Haha, very jealous! I'll probably end up going to the Isles on Tuesday, but really would like to go to the Caps game on Saturday.

Definitely would not have a problem with that line, but I can't imagine he doesn't play with Adam. The two played very well together in the Tri City tournament, and seem to be pretty good friends off the ice. Tropp-Adam-Kassian would definitely make a lot of sense.

How's Kassian's compete level been in Rochester? I've read that he often looked uninterested and wasn't working hard in juniors. I hope that's not the norm for him as a pro.

I like the thought of his first nhl game with Goose and Gerbe. Put him with our hardest workers. And hell thats a scary looking line you don't mess with
